Club membership and CF

We have membership of a lovely club in the centre of town. Great restaurant and bar vibe.

For those of you who attend such a place, how do you feel about requests from friends to take them?

I'm getting a bit fed up of expectations.

To clarify I've just explained my frustration about this to a friend and I'm now public enemy number one.

First world problem but I'm interested to hear other stories.

Thanks

Text them a link on how to join on the club's website

citychick · 25/07/2019 14:11

It would seem to be the obvious thing to do.

Way too subtle for some folks in these here parts. 🙄

Thanks 👍

When you take them do they buy the drinks/food?

citychick · 25/07/2019 14:33

It's all on account so member is billed bat the end of the month.

No cash to be exchanged within club. Most folk pay their way, but many will " forget". We've been left to foot a few nights out. 😣

I'm pretty blunt at asking for cash from others. DH more relaxed. It's more the expectations that we'll just take them there when they fancy.

I've just said no to a "friend". I've been branded an immature bully.
Nice. 🤨

I would never, ever have asked!

picklemepopcorn · 25/07/2019 14:36

It's clear they aren't a friend.

Disfordarkchocolate · 25/07/2019 14:39

I'd never ask or expect you to pay if you asked me. Some people really don't like their 'friends' having anything nice they don't have.

stucknoue · 25/07/2019 14:39

To take someone interested in joining fair enough, to take visitors at your suggestion again it's fair but if they are local and have been more than once then suggest they join! I've been with a friend to her country club a few times but only because she pays for a double membership (don't really understand why) and offers

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 25/07/2019 14:41

I've had this. It's ok if they are the ones paying for the drinks or meal which I think is perfectly reasonable in return for free access to an exclusive club. Or, if they had something else and treated you from time to time that would also be ok.

Unfortunately, it never seems to happen like that with cheeky fuckers though. At my exclusive spa I took a friend, picked up the lunch tab because she forgot her purse and drove her and she got out of the car and didn't even say thanks.

Don't do it anymore

citychick · 25/07/2019 14:44

pickle I would never ask, either. I would wait for the invitation. Most here are very willing to invite. But after a while, the expectations set in.

Not a friend...I kind of agree. It makes me sad, but as above, expectations set in and, a few expats don't like being told they can't do what they want, when they want.

"Friend" has certainly shown her colours...

I think here it's more a case of , " no point in us joining X club. We just go with friends so we can use the facilities."

People actually want friends with memberships so they can tag along.

🙄

People actually want friends with memberships so they can tag along.

That's actually quite hurtful. Do they ever offer anything in return?

citychick · 25/07/2019 14:56

*marrriednow"

😲 So disappointing.

I've also taken guests to another club (UK). One was a vegan. A few of us went for dinner. Before we went I asked if she wanted me to call the restaurant and let them know.

"It's ok, I've already called them and they've changed the menu to suit me." 😱

I was livid. This was a very exclusive club. She's never been invited back.

Such cheeky fuckery...😣

marrriednow.

Some do. Some don't. Some have a total lack of awareness and just don't realise what they are doing.

Many people reciprocate and it's lovely to see other places.

Some are completely aware are just brazen. And when called out on their actions lose their shizzle.
