What easily transportable NZ foods would you want a friend to bring you if they came to stay? Refresh my memory!

Marmite or vegemite depending on which they prefer

thats what I used to request first and foremost, Sanitarium Marmite

MrsJohnCusack · 31/07/2007 03:27

pineapple lumps and jaffas if they have a sweet tooth. and Tim Tams

that and vegemite were what my family used to bring back. Although I think you can get vegemite in the UK now

MrsJohnCusack · 31/07/2007 03:30

oooh look this website might give you some more ideas

ZacharyQuack · 31/07/2007 06:40

Minties, vogels bread, a decent cup of coffee, my mums chocolate chippie biscuits

twentypence · 31/07/2007 06:51

My SIL always asks for gingernuts.

ZacharyQuack · 31/07/2007 12:13

Chocolate coated gingernut fingers (much nicer than they sound)

Ooh ZacharyQuack I don't know those!

I don't want to ask for too much but I can't decide! I love scorched almonds, macaroon biscuits, afghan biscuits, toffee pops, pixie caramel balls, hundreds and thousand biscuits,...

I'm not into anything marshmallow, mint, orange or sweets that don't involve chocolate.

French onion soup mix. For dip, and for the pieburgers in the ancient Hudson and Hall's cookbook.

Squiggletops if you have a really sweet tooth (I don't).

K-bars if you have really strong teeth .

legalalien · 31/07/2007 16:54

ps: creamed corn

Mercy · 31/07/2007 16:55

Dh would say chocolate fish and Milo

Is Vogel bread a Kiwi product? You can get it in most supermarkets here I thought.

legalalien · 31/07/2007 16:57

Chocolate fish!!!!! [but unfortunately I think marshmallow was ruled out].

The standard Vogel's bread in the UK tastes different.

Mercy · 31/07/2007 17:01

dh says the Milo we have here tastes different too.

I know dh would also say feijoas!

legalalien · 31/07/2007 17:06

oh, no, no feijoas. We had a big feijoa tree and not much cash when I was a kid, and I've eaten enough for a lifetime!

I mostly get my mum to bring kid's clothes with her, since she can buy in the seasonal sales and you end up with something a bit different (plus she has a factory outlet for pumpkin patch down the road)

florenceuk · 31/07/2007 17:08

My mum sends me marmite, scorched almonds and creamed corn! The cost of the postage almost outweighs the contents. Another thing you can't get here but is very useful are those powdered fruit drinks.

legalalien · 31/07/2007 17:09

florence - lol since was wondering the other day whether Raro would be considered the nz equivalent of fruit shoots by the mumsnet constituency.

mercy - what does your DH think about tamarillos? I personally think that they're the work of the devil.

TheMaskedPoster · 31/07/2007 17:20

Burger rings

L&P

ANY NZ pie (I remember Georgie Pie - the fast food chain that even had a drive through for hangover mornings ... )

tamarillos and feijoas if I had to have a fruit in there ...

TheMaskedPoster · 31/07/2007 17:21

LOL at Raro - we were raised on Raro (and Maltexo, haliborange tablets and fluoride tablets)

If you are out hiking/tramping then raro is the business. I can't think why in the land of fruit shoots we don't have them! Milo btw has a much higher sugar content in the UK than in NZ.

TheMaskedPoster · 31/07/2007 18:49

oh yeah - that chip dip from reduced cream and onion packet soup!

legend!
