Singapore - views on Ming Teck Park ?

Hi all, moving to Singapore in July, and looking at property in the Ming Teck Park area - probably small house with garden. It seems like a nice community, and well connected in terms of local transport. Does anybody have any recent experience living in the area, and any tips for sporting and other facilities in the local neighbourhood? Many thanks in advance for any insights

It's in a nice area not too far from Bukit Timah which has loads going on. Is it a cluster house with a shared pool? Or just a landed house? I don't know how much you know about SG already but it's endlessly hot and sticky and it's nice to have access to a pool which is easy in condos and cluster houses. Will you have a car? If not and you are not near MRT or a bus stop with a lot of routes you might not enjoy the walking

I used to live down the road in Holland Village. Ming Teck Park and Sixth Avenue area generally considered posh and desirable. Like you said, transport links are relatively good, with buses along Sixth Avenue into town or a couple of stops to Holland V MRT station.

There is a great supermarket nearby - Cold Storage Jelita - though local supermarkets have cottoned on to delivery service.

Unfortunately no sporting facilities nearby as such. I used to go to a gym in town.

Borninmyheart2 Is this your first time living in Singapore? I'm concerned that I might have given a too-rosy picture of Ming Teck Park.

I'm wondering if the advantages of landed property might be outweighed by condominium facilities? The more common way of living in Singapore is in apartments and there are some luxurious ones with (several) swimming pools and a gym downstairs. A garden in Singapore is overrated as it's usually too hot to sit outside for long. Much nicer to be in a swimsuit by the pool with landscaped surroundings!

There will be a ready made 'community' of neighbours, possibly shuttle bus links to main transport hub/supermarket/shops. Perhaps something to consider?

I agree with poster above- a pool is better than a garden in that climate! And if you don't know anyone in Singapore yet condo living gives you a good chance for easily made friends :-)
