International schools in Paris

Hi,

We are due to be moving to Paris in the summer for 2 years. Kids will be 5 and 3, so I've been looking for international schools that also have preschool. British school paris have said youngest can only attend the nursery full time and we don't want him to (and can't afford it!), so discounted it. Does anyone have any experience of Malherbe International school that they would be willing to share please?

Thank you

From September 2019, all children living in France are required by law to be in full time education. This basically means school!

All children living in France who will turn 3 in the calendar year in which there is the next September Rentrée

If you are only going to be in France for 2 years, why not send your children to a French school?

Wow really? 3 seems really young for compulsory full time education. Is that a new law?
We’d rather not put them in a French school as I think it would be really hard for them to settle in and I feel it’s going to be hard as it is!

Yes, it’s brand new. Obligatory school starting age used to be 6 (year 2 equivalent), now it’s 3.

International schools can be very full of children who don’t speak a word of English when they start school, meaning that the pace is very slow indeed. And your child(ren) might find that very limiting.

Basically, there will be culture shock anywhere - less at the British School - and I’m not convinced that the culture at international schools is closer to English culture than the culture at a traditional French Catholic school, where the children will be relatively well behaved and there will be expectations of being kind and polite.

International schools in France don't have a slow pace at all. It's a French, demanding and very strict curriculum (unless the system has completely changed since I was there), just with the addition of a few lessons in your mother tongue, and being surrounded by different cultures.

You are talking about French bilingual schools, sagrada, not international (English medium) Schools.

Sagradafamiliar · 27/04/2019 17:20

Haha no I'm not attended international schools solidly between the ages of 2-17.

Sagradafamiliar · 27/04/2019 17:21

I* attended

MariaNovella · 27/04/2019 17:26

The OP is asking about English medium preschools.

Sagradafamiliar · 27/04/2019 17:28

I read 'international schools'.

MariaNovella · 27/04/2019 17:31

Yes, an international school is an English medium school. Not to be confused with a section internationale, which is a completely different thing.

Sagradafamiliar · 27/04/2019 17:33

I have no experience of Malherbe sorry OP but hopefully someone helpful will be along soon! Good luck with your move.
