Flying late into pregnancy

Hi all,

Sorry for cross posting, but I thought it’d be interesting to get an expat perspective! I’m from the Uk and am a permanent resident of Australia. We had our first little boy in Oz and so he’s a citizen, and I’m currently pregnant with number 2 and we are debating whether to go for the birth. The bonuses would be a passport for baby 2, but it’d also mean eligibility for me and me husband to apply after 9 more months in australia.

A small issue is I have a very important job interview and the interview date has been moved to 34+6, so I can’t fly til I’m 35 weeks. Emirates allow this - singleton pregnancy, well so far, BUPA will insure me but not baby. We have a life we can pick up in australia including health care and an obstetrician.

Has anyone done it this late? Is there insurance that covers the baby? Any tips? Am I mad?

I flew from Cairo to London at 36 weeks (with a doctor's note saying I was 34 weeks).
I didn't even think about insurance for the baby, but it was a direct flight so I didn't have a stopover. I was travelling alone with dd1 who was 6 as dh couldn't come with us.
I was fine but I am not sure I would have been so confident on a UK - Australia flight.
Good luck.

I flew Riyadh to London (obviously a shorter flight than yours will be) at 36 weeks with no problems. I didn't bother trying to find insurance. If you've had a smooth pregnancy so far, then go for it. If you can stretch to premium/club seat, even better.
