Dulwich College Singapore

Right, this is a new post re Dulwich College Singapore. I would like to have more updated information regarding the school itself, where to live, etc.

We are moving to Singapore the next academic year (August 2019) and I have a 6 and a 3 years old. They will be in Year 3 and Reception, and Dulwich is the only school that potentially have space for us.
I am a bit concern about the location of the school, I know that everything is near in Singapore, but I was wondering if there is any updated information about nearby condos or cluster houses near Dulwich and with easy commute to Raffles Place MRT. I read you 2016 posts @Tango80 @FreddoFrog @shuijiao and I was wondering if you managed to find the right place to live accessible to Dulwich College and what are your thoughts about the school itself.

Anybody here that could give me any insight about the school in general? It seems very appealing for us. We are from London and planning to come back in 5 years time when our eldest might enter to senior school here, so following the UK curriculum would be beneficial.

I really appreciate it your help. Please PM if you find it easier. ....Thanks! Smile

Hi there. I was @FreddoFrog once upon a time!

Lots of Dulwich College families living all the way from River Valley west to the school. Bukit Timah is a particularly good spot. Have a look around the train stations along the Downtown (blue line) like Tan Kah Kee, Sixth Avenue, Albert Park.

Some condos to look at: Duchess Crest, Duchess Residences, the cluster houses at Hillcrest Villa are all good ones and will have lots of kids going to Dulwich. Tenerife cluster houses too. And the Trevose condo near Botanic Gardens mrt. Also the condos along Farrer Road - Woollerton Park, Sommerville Park, Villa della Rose, D'Leedon, Gallop Gables. All of these will have school buses going to Dulwich and have easy (walkable) access to the MRT stations to get to Raffles.

We didn't choose Dulwich in the end but we have lots of friends there and they are very happy with it. It's a big school - I believe there are 8 reception classes! - and has a reputation for good academics, facilities and great extra-curricular opportunities for sport, music and drama. It's a very popular school.

I know all of the British international schools here have significant wait lists so you should get your kids on the waitlist if you are keen. Good luck!

Thank you ex-FroddoFrog! @Rickytickytembo very useful information.
We submitted the application already. It seems surreal I have to choose a school just based on forums or internet....I am very nervous.

What school did you choose in the end if you dont mind asking? We have the chance to go for another one just in case!

Thanks again! Smile

@Rickytickytembo
Thanks for your help.
We have been offered a place for UWCSEA for my both kids and for Dulwich my youngest got a place and my son passed the test but he is on the waiting list for Y3.

I really do not know what to do as I need to accept the offers pretty much soon!!! Any idea about UWCSEA? thanks again!!

Oh hey! Congratulations! That's great news. I haven't visited either UWC campus but I hear great things about the school. This is completely random but I recently went to a 40th where most of the guests were ex-UWC and they were a truly great bunch of people. UWC is well known for a strong philanthropy philosophy- they do a lot of charity work. It and Tanglin Trust are not for profit schools which is a good thing I think, Dulwich and Dover Court are businesses and feel that way sometimes.

Other areas of comparisons - Chinese program is stronger at Dulwich but that's only for the junior years (there is a Mandarin teacher all day in the classrooms at Dulwich but only until year 2);

  • UWC campus is more centrally located (assume you're applying to Dover campus)
  • Dulwich has a more formal uniform!!

Bottom line of course is that both are very well regarded schools and your kids are very likely to thrive in both. Dulwich would likely have a higher % of British students which may feel more familiar. UWC is more established in SG and is kind of the it school for expat establishment. If you're planning to be here long term, right now it's probably the better school for networking - though this may change as Dulwich becomes more established.

On balance, I personally would choose UWC for my children but both are excellent options. You're lucky to have the choice!!

thanks a lot again @Rickytickytembo
You are right, I should be grateful to have these 2 options!!
