Thanksgiving, football, cold!

Any advice on how to avoid freezing to death while watching high school football on Thanksgiving in what is forecast to be -7C, feels like -17C? Obviously big coats and boots, but I used to freeze watching school hockey back in Scotland and this is a whole new level of cold. Add in the fact that I find all sport boring and I am concerned about my imminent death from cold and tedium. We're going to be spending Thanksgiving with some very generous friends so unless they cry off its hard for me to! Please tell me they will call it off if its too cold or something (I know they won't but grasping at straws, while I can still feel my fingers).

Do what generations of Americans have done; Invest in a flask and smuggle some whisky into the game.

Insulate your feet from the ground - inner soles, at least two pairs of socks, boots with thick rubber soles

If you're sitting on bleachers, take a cushion

For all the British grumbles about NFL players being weak and having to play with protection, I can't think of many rugby teams who would be allowed to play in snow like this

Uniqlo heat tech thermals as a base layer - do you have proper snow pants? if not, now is the time to invest! they'll keep you toasty

Also look for clothes that have heat retention on the inside - looks a bit like flat foil, they work a treat

failing that, offer to go get the drinks / food in regularly so you can loiter indoors

Yes - v important to have something to sit on.

thermals, snow pants, down coat, mittens (warmer than gloves) and snow boots.

God I hope there's a bar Grin

It looks like women and children are being given the option to skip the football, but thanks for all your advice! You may be right about the snow pants anyway, off to look at Black Friday deals. And gloves, I only have UK appropriate gloves....

If you're anywhere that gets snow cementer get the pants (especially if you have to shovel the bloody stuff!) H&M and Target and Walmart do decent lined ones for under $100

LittleMy77 · 20/11/2018 22:28

Cementer?? Chemenger! bloody auto correct

I'm buying a balaclava this year, I envied the DC last year in theirs last year. I have also got thermals and heat packs. I refuse to buy a bloody Canada goose coat though!

No shovelling snow in our 24th floor apartment, thankfully. I have made a trip to Uniqlo, hello ugly wind proof fleece lined pants/trousers (am now bilingual). They will complement my ugly LL Bean boots beautifully.
