Looking for advice pretty please everyone.

Someone close to me has been offered a job in Singapore. If you have done this yourself or know someone who has - Singapore or elsewhere - what would you expect to be included in the offer/package?

Thanks

Smile

Trying not to be too specific but brand/marketing/advertising!

Packages seem to be shrinking considerably in Singapore. The key focus is accommodation, schooling, shipping/baggage allowance, flights home & medical insurance.

I’m hearing fewer and fewer people getting all of the above in decent quantities, compared to about 5 years ago, as it’s being viewed as a place that many relocate to off their own back.

Propertyguru is useful to give an indication of areas, you can pretty much take 40% off the rental asking price in most cases. Schooling would be the big one if needed, and would dictate the overall package.

It's a single person, no children and doesn't drive. Salary is agreed but offer letter is short on detail and red flags are waving slightly about what they might be missing eg: pension, accommodation when first out there, flight back to uk each year, medical and dental?

Would be surprised to see a pension in there - a friend did negotiate for her company to pay National Insurance contributions for the years she’d be away from the UK. Happy to be correcting by other posters but most people I know there have set up private pensions or haven’t bothered.

Medical should be negotiated into the package for sure, although dental is one of those areas where some companies will and some won’t include it. I just used a very cost effective dentist instead.

I’d negotiate for accommodation for at least the first 6 weeks and they’ll probably agree on a month. For those companies that did include flights back, it was one economy return per calendar year. That was seen as a perk.

One thing to check is annual leave, if it is sticking with UK numbers or Singapore.

Thanks Case that's useful.

Annual leave is 20days (assume plus bank hols).

The only tiny piece of info I can offer is that when we were there for a year, we didn't need a car,so not driving will be no problem. Taxis are cheap and plentiful and the prices are set by the State. Cheap as chips!

Hope your friend enjoys the experience - it's incredibly safe to walk around by yourself, even late at night.
