Thinking of moving to Malaysia ...

Hi all, I'm considering a move to Malaysia, possibly KL, and have quite a few questions. I'll just start with a few for now and say thanks for the input :)

  • Do any of you ride horses regularly? How do you manage with stabling etc? Which riding school do you prefer? I've looked up Bukit Kiara and 3Q online but hard to suss out without actually seeing it or speaking to someone.
  • What's the work environment like? Any thoughts on the self-employed front?
  • I need to be able to get gluten-free foods. Is this easy to come by at supermarkets? What's the range like?
  • What's the internet speed like? Similar to Virgin broadband or fibre in the UK?
  • And, do they still censor the most inane things on tv? What about netflix? I hear they have netflix.
That's it for now, I'd very much appreciate whatever input you have to offer!

Hi Beeswax. I have been PMíng you

To add-
Bukit Kiara is a bit run down
You can get gluten free but it isn't cheap (only available in the western supermarkets at inflated prices), Some restaurants will cater, but again the higher end ones. My dd has a nut allergy and we have our trusted restaurants and tend to stick to them
Internet is improving, we have Unifi and manage to stream. A lot of people are now using TIME. All ultimately owned by Telekom Malaysia though - be under no illusions that it's not a monoply.
I've not watched Malaysian TV for a few years. The cinema is still shockingly badly edited.
You can get Netflix, but it is the Malaysian version, we don't have everything you can get on UK Netflix. I don't think the selection is bad, but I'm always impressed with the UK selection when I am at home

Hi! Thanks for that. Looks like I will be taking my notebook to the supermarket to check out prices then. Do you mind giving me a few suggestions as to trustworthy restaurants? Dealing with a nut allergy is quite a bit more serious than my gluten allergy so it would be worthwhile knowing the staff can be trusted.
What sorts of challenges do you come across with the wifi? What speeds are you working with? Does it cut out a lot regardless of weather or only during storms? Anything else you'd like to mention about the internet?
It really rubs me the wrong way that not only can you not watch a film that hasn't been censored in the cinema but then you have the added insult of crappy and censored tv at home.
