there seems to be so many of us here now and those who are coming soon that I am losing track of them.
so here goes - test my memory and if I have not included you - please include yourself - am sure I have left out plenty - especially new arrivals - so forgiveness begged in advance

Also curious as to how many of us are aussies - born and bred and how many are imports

Can I join in too please?

I live in UK, but am from Brisbane.

Have just got back to UK after spending six weeks ther, so am feeling mighty homesick at the moment.

We'll be moving back before DS1 starts prep in Jan '09.

Thx

All I need to say is: Bledisloe Cup

ghosty · 18/05/2007 09:35

Hope your DH's ceremony is better than my one ... long story, won't bore you with it ...

eidsvold · 18/05/2007 10:15

bore us his sounds like a comedy caper.

He can have 4 guests sitting with him but can invite up to 20 - the others get to sit at the back with the rest of the extras. So his 4 guests are me and the three girls - well I really would need someone with me when dh goes up to take his pledge. His ceremony is at 7pm - which is dd1 and 2 bedtime and dd3 likes to feed around that time - so oh joy!!

THen they get a free tree - light supper provided afterwards. The letter says whilst they maintain the appropriate amount of formality for the situation - they like to have a 'good' time. The letter also said that those recieving the most applause etc would 'win' a free tree...

so feel free to share!!

It felt awfully funny having to swear allegiance to the Queen ... of New Zealand and her hairs ... I mean heirs . I have been a subject of her majesty all my life but now I have sworn allegiance to her by becoming a citizen of another country ... bizarre!

I think the weird thing about it was although the invitation letter was really strict about dress code and guests (only 2 allowed per person and I dressed up really really smart), when we got there there were people shuffling around in jeans and looking terrible. There were 1000 people being 'done' that night but there was loads of room for more guests if you wanted. The 'formal' performance was really bad ... I was expecting a sort of maori show with people dressed up (they love that sort of thing in NZ) but we had a shoddy school choir that giggled their way through their performance
No one had heard of the 'dignitories' that awarded the certificates ... some obscure black cap cricketer who DH had never heard of (DH is a bit of a cricket almanac boffin and knows every UK/NZ/Aus/SA/WI cricketer ever)
The worst bit was the mayor's speech ... which was not only poorly written and delivered but was downright racist ... I am formulating a letter at the moment ... he was shocking ...

here in Aus you can choose to do an affirmation or an oath swearing - so dh has chosen to do the affirmation rather than the Oath given that he is british by birth iyswim. Will let you know how it goes in a couple of weeks.

Sounds dire - shame the mayor spoilt it with a racist speech.
