Anyone living in Paris: How do I find childcare???

I will be working in Paris for a month end June/July and need to sort out childcare for a 4 and 6 year old. Any suggestions much appreciated. They speak no French but I do and I would like them to go to the same place/be looked after by the same person.

We will be working at Ecole Normale (my geography is poor)

Any ideas much appreciated... I am getting somewhat worried.

Could you take an English person over with you, someone who's just finished French A level for example?
I used to work as a nanny in Paris, and don't really rate the daycare over there.
Where is Ecole Normale?

Contact MOMA - the huge paris expat mummies network, or there is a magazine with loads of jobs and wanted ads whose name I forget but someone will know. Try googling jobs, paris, magazine or something.....

No, its not called moma, its called MESSAGE. Try message paris in google.

Or you could ask my 17 yr old dd if she is interested (she currently looks after two children of 2 and 6 sole charge two nights a week). She would need accomodation though. She speaks french and english and we live in the south of france.

Suddenly occurred to me.........

unfortunately accommodation we are renting is too small for anyone else... Its in 5th.

The English small ad magazine for Paris is called FUSAC and can be found in any English bookstore here.

But I would second the poster who didn't rate the childcare here in Paris - I have lived here since 1992 and know the place very well indeed and if I were in your position I would take someone with me if at all possible...

You won't like the private daycare here - very poor quality/cramped by English standards. So you are looking at babysitters/nannies. English speaking ones are available - there are Filipinas and Sri Lankans around.

Take a look at www.bebe-nounou.fr

Many Thanks - yes am worrying as to what we will find, they will be 6 (whilst we are there) and 4 so at least can now tell me if there is a problem. Has anyone used the bilingual montessori?

Which bilingual Montessori are you thinking of? There are lots of nurseries that call themselves bilingual here that are actually just French nurseries that teach English to tiny children.

KathG · 09/05/2007 10:14

Anna, The Bilingual Montessori School of Paris was the one I contacted - any thoughts? Many thanks.

I don't know much about it, but have not heard anything bad. Probably quite American (so probably quite a lot kinder to children than a French nursery).

When I was in Paris (yeas ago) you could advertise for child care on the notice board of the American Church. Not sure if you still can.

thanks -will try and contact them,
