Hi All,

So me and my husband have been talking and a potential move to Houston is on the cards! Eeeekkkkkk!!!

We have 2 DC's, 1 DS 6 and 1 DD 2

We have spoke about emmigrating / travelling for many years but ive been to scared. Decided life is to short and to bite the bullet

Initally looking at Houston as I can potentially get a work transfer and know someone over there who I used to work with here so feel a bit better I know someone. I havent been able to speak to them yet as have a meeting with my MD next week re asking on the potential transfer so havent told ne1 yet

So my question is .......
What can you tell me about Houston?
Lifestyle? Schools? Houses - buy or rent? Weather? Etc etc
Any information you can give would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance
Xxxxx

*Our relocation package cost over $100,000

Crikey! I know there are some who get school fees, accommodation, cars, flights home etc. paid for (which is presumably your case to get up to $100k) but I do think that's an exception, not the norm.*

We got all legal fees paid for, first months rent, rental car for 6 weeks, flights, embassy fees, some belongings shipped - no schools fees, flights home, etc - we were told they had spent $100,000 on everything

If the appropriate visas are in operation for a maximum of either 5 or 7 years, how will you reintegrate your children back into UK education if you leave at that point? Do you plan to apply for green cards?

Hey

If we like we it we are planning to stay and apply for Green Cards.

If we dnt we will come back earlier so my DS can start secondary school here

Thanks

Depending on what side of Houston you are working, I would recommend Katy. Great public schools and really good community facilities like outdoor pools.

Katy's ok but it has little personality imho, no quirky bars, few restaurants that are not chains and building regs make the houses all look the same brown boxes.....

We like the heights, bellaire, West u, braes, spring and the villages..... totally depends on where work is though. Living in Katy and working downtown means more than an hours drive to work....
