It's quite a sudden move my Oh got work here near Barcelona we found out when lo was only 6 weeks and I've been busy in the uk until Monday trying to move everything and everyone over. So basically I need to take care of lo (will try not to drip feed) I do not speak any Spanish 😳 My mum accidentally took mine and lo passports after the flight and can't get them back before Jan 20th (we are currently in Spain) we do have our eu health cards and my oh healthcare doesn't cover us and we do not have much financially. Lo needs her 3rd set of injections can I do that without a passport and having ni card? Do they have wiegh in clinics like The uk? What do I need to know?

First of all don’t panic!
Second- tell your mum to post out the passports recorded delivery

Then have a read of this www.gov.uk/guidance/healthcare-in-spain, which gives some info on accessing health care. A brief read suggests you may not be covered and will have to buy health insurance - I am very happy to be proved wrong here. Your Ehicc will only cover emergency care, not standard health care.

I suggest you contact your partner’s employer and ask about relocation arrangements for families. Seems very harsh to move out a uk citizen and then not provide health insurance. I know Barcelona has a UK consulate who are very helpful - my DP needed their help in the summer - so you could call in and ask
You’re going to be very isolated if you don’t speak Spanish- can you link up with British expat community? They be also be a very valuable source of information.

My oh is only teaching English (got to work your way up from somewhere) it doesn't tend to attract families I don't think they have anything for it and it is a new job, my oh has his ni all sorted already I will get ours sorted hopefully Jan/Feb time. It's just in the mean time I have no idea what I can do or her, I think I should be taking her to weigh in clinics like the uk? The health visitor said a month or two won't make any difference with her injections. I'm soo incredibly isolated here tbh people really do not speak English and there's no expat community.

Hi there,

I will try and help you best I can.

Firstly there are no weigh in clinics in Spain. If you want to get your LO weighed, take her to a pharmacy. They all have scales for this sort of thing and you can do it yourself.

Your LO will have a check up in Spain at 6 months, then 12 and 18 up until she turns 2. This is done at the Health Centre with a Nurse/Paediatrician. If an injection is due then they will do that aswell.

If you aren´t working then you should be able to be put on your Husband´s social security and this way you will get a Spanish health card. Your daughter will get one too. This may take a while to come through. But in the mean time, you should be given a temporary "paper" which you can show at your local health centre in order to access care. I can´t remember now what this is called. Does your husband speak Spanish? You will have to go along to the nearest Social Security office for this.

If you do really need to see a doctor you can pay privately for a one off consultation without having insurance. It´s not as expensive as you may imagine.

Plus, you absolutely need your passport to get anything done in Spain.
