Question about what is allowed in mail, UK to Germany

Just thought I'd ask in case anyone knew as the details on the Royal Mail website are confusing me...
I want to post: Marmite in glass jar, book, confectionary.

Any of these obviously a problem? I didn't think they would be but now I'm not sure!

I'm in Germany and would say you can post anything you'd post within the UK. Glass jars obviously risky to post generally, but never had anything not arrive.

Yes, it will be fine as within the EU.

One thing, Germany is a bit stricter than the UK on being able to open post addressed to another person, so if it is for a family rather than just one person, write "Familie TheirName" on the envelope, just in case, and then anyone from the family can collect it if it goes to the parcel office.

My friend once had the Austrian post office refuse to hand something over to her because it was addressed to "M Friend" and her name in her passport is Amanda (Mandy) - I think the post office can sometimes attract jobsworths.

And if they have any 7s in their address, either type the label or cross the 7s in handwriting. Germans write 1s like we write 7s, so they sometimes get confused. I've only had two things go astray (and eventually turn up with a passive aggressive note about the wrong postcode on) but better to be safe than sorry.
