Does anyone know if it is possible to find a shoe shop in Spain which measures your childs feet and fits the shoes? or am I going to have to guess and try to fit them myself !

Hola! I haven't found a shop which measures kids feet. I'm afraid it is a case of guessing. I started a similar thread when I first moved here, will try and find it because someone recommended something to help.

thanks - will do a search as well.

I am sure my kids had there feet measured at El corte Ingles

Soph73 · 23/04/2007 11:50

Hi there! Our son is 4 and he has never had his feet measured here (we live in Gran Canaria). We usually wait until we visit the UK and get them measured there. However, saying that, I was in a sports shop the other week and actually saw one of those foot-measuring gadgets. The shop assistant didn´t actually use it to measure my son´s feet though!!

I haven't found a big El Corte Ingles yet but will look. Otherwise will just have to get them double checked every time I go back to the UK as well !

Don't know about Spain, but in Italy (wherre I usually buy the children's shoes) they never measure the feet, I've always met shop assistant who can produce the right shoe just looking at the children's feet

Franca - I know what you mean, you go into a bloody expensive shoe shop which has Armani junior or whatever at 160 euros a pair and they don't have a measuring thingy. I get my DD's measured in a crappy shop then go elsewhere to buy shoes. Many of the sizes vary from brand to brand though, and when I asked someone to measure the width they looked at me as if I'd fallen off the planet. No point they say, makes no difference .

Brangelina · 27/04/2007 14:10

BTW, where do you go where they can produce the right shoe just by looking? Is it in Milan? Tell me so I can go too! Everywhere I've been round here has got it completely wrong.

franca70 · 27/04/2007 14:36

first of all I'll apologize to the spanish mums for the hijack, and wish them a happy ending in the shoe-hunting, I know it's a nightmare (esp if you are in a different country with different habits!)

Hi Brangelina! I agree, I think that the children shoe market is getting crazy with all those armani junior, D&G, etc etc. I tend to stick to very traditional shoes and the odd pair of trainers.
Independent traditional shops usually employ the same people for years. Therefore they are very experienced and really don't need to measure the children feet to understand what's right and they happily (well, happily depends on their politeness, which is fastly disappearing from italian shopkeepers) show you different models and different sizes to try.
A traditional milanese shoe shop for children is gusella.
one shop is in san babila, another in corso vercelli, another in corso di porta romana. they stock the usual suspects (lelly kelly, all stars, superga etc etc etc) but I usually buy kickers (for winter), which are so hard wearing (dd wore three pairs already used by her older brother) and their traditional "sandali coi buchi" for the summer, usually in red. (quite pricey, 68 euro I think, but made with real leather, and again last forever)
There's a little shop with very compentent negozianti in via belfiore (piazza wagner), can't remember the name, quite traditional again and probably pricey.
Lovely shoes are found also at du pareil au meme, in corso buenos aires, they are fairly cheap, but don't expect much help there. at all. (last time I went they were useless, no sizes etc, but I love the clothes too much)
don't overlook mercati rionali, they are usually quite good.
I'll think about some more, sorry this was long.

Brangelina · 27/04/2007 23:31

Yes I apologise for the hijack too, I always seem to be doing this, I must be a serial hijacker. How rude!

Thanks Franca for the info, I'd always avoided giong into Gusella because the clothes all seemed so twee and "perbene" (at least it's like that in Monza). I might well start going, not least so we can see what shoes actually fit DD. I like Kickers too, just got her a pair for the summer. Luckily I found them in a shop that was closing down so everything was 50%, I really hate spending loads on shoes when she'll outgrow them in 3 months [stingy emoticon].
I didn't know they did shoes at DPAM, but then I always go to the one in Via Dante, Corso Buenos Aires must be bigger. I adore their clothes too, just went and bought loads for DD to grow into next summer. I also bought baby Reebok trainers from Papiniano at 10 euros a pair. It's a pain not being in Milan anymore, I now have to do special trips for all those necessary things in life that I once had on my doorstep. Sigh.

franca70 · 29/04/2007 10:32

I don't like the clothes at gusella too, although I kind of like "perbene" shoes, just as a reaction to general tamarraggine and shoes for children that resembles adults' ones...
