Bank admin when overseas

Probably a simple answer but I can’t think of it....if you need to keep a UK bank account when moving overseas, where do you get the mail posted to? Presume that the banks don’t send to a non UK address and that relocating mail is a temporary arrangement. Thanks

The tax residency letters are daft though, especially in our case as they can see dh's MOD pension going into the account, which means he is tax resident in the UK. HMRC know where we are as well as we do tax returns each year.

We got these letters too. We're both tax resident in another EU country and just have the UK account to pay off DH's outstanding student loans... Surely they can't close your account just because you're not tax resident in the UK?

We have accounts with NatWest and HSBC. Both send mail to Luxembourg where we are resident and tax resident.
In the last couple of years we appear to be asked more often about our tax residency.
NatWest appear happy but we are having a problem with HSBC. Under Luxembourg tax law you register in your maiden name. Our account with HSBC does not have that name in the account name.
It is getting more difficult as the telephone number they give for help is no help. At their second time of asking for documents they want them delivered to our local branch BY HAND (Account opened in Kensington London)
There appears no way to contact them by phone or email.
Hopefully a letter might get some attention.
With very low interest rates I suspect Banks don't worry if they loose a few current accounts.

Tax residency is daft, both HSBC and HMRC know what our tax status is and we complete a U.K. tax return for our U.K. house. Chasing and filing this paperwork must cost more money than it makes.

This explains why banks are asking these questions. They're complying with regulations.

Gfplux · 22/11/2017 17:10

The questions they ask are perfectly proper. However they have no interest in engaging with customers, spending scarce resources in providing specialist assistance by email or phone.
As I have said before there is no money to be made on these current accounts and the Banks would much prefer we went away.

I have very little faith in any bank to look after my best interests, or even comply with regulations if they think they can get away with anything.

I've had this request via my online banking inmail . When I get a real email or hard copy, I'll fill it out.
