Special Needs schools in Brussels

Dear all,

I have a son who will be 4 in just a month. He is a heart baby but has also delays. He cannot speak except for few words. Very happy and energetic but with limited agility due to effects of hospitalizations. I am wondering if you know schools in and around Brussels where i could send him to? He was admitted in one of the European Schools but they informed me today that they cannot keep him in school as the school is 'mainstream'and he should be well attended to in a special needs education system.

Without those details, I'm not sure how anyone can suggest help.
Local schools in Brussels are French or Dutch.
Has your son had any educational assessments at all?

St John’s in Waterloo is very good with children with special needs.

St John's isn't in Brussels. Many private schools are good with special needs. Many public schools are good with special needs. There is no way of knowing which school is suitable in Brussels without more information.

OP asked for recommendations for schools in and around Brussels. St John’s is in Waterloo - so around Brussels.
If OP had a place at the European Schools ( Cat 1 I assume) the EU will probably pay the fees at St John’s if the European Schools cannot meet the child’s needs
I am assuming that OP and family are Anglophone. It is usually not helpful for verbal children with SEN to be faced with the additional challenge of learning through a second language.

If you are looking for a school accepting SEN in and around Brussels, you certainly would not look at St John's, as it's a stretch of definition to say around, there are many international school far nearer to the centre of Brussels. ISB has a dedicated unit at about 45k for the most profound of SENs and usually quite a wait to get into the unit. BSB, ACE, BISB, BJAB, BEPS, Montessori International, ISF Tervuren, they will all consider special needs and are in English and 20km nearer to the centre of Brussels. However the OP hasn't stated the languages spoken. I know children who've gone to Dutch and French specialized schools and are still there. Without more info, a bit hard to help.
