...... those 'I don't understand your language' moments, mind goes blank .....

I've just walked out of a bakery laughing quietly at myself. Nothing really embarassing happened but I was having one of those blank-minded 'I don't understand anything' moments. Nice lady behind the counter served me then pointed out the window and said something I truly did not get at all... and instead of admitting it I just smiled and agreed with her, and walked out, just to avoid having to give away the fact I am foreign and don't speak the language properly. Laziness on my part - if I had given the game away and let on I am foreign, I would have been there an extra 5 minutes explaining how, why, and what about myself.... and all I wanted was a loaf of bread.
Does anyone else have those moments? Do you play dumb or come clean about not understanding?

Absolutely. I pass other dog walkers who mutter some pleasantry about my dog etc and sometimes it's just easier to smile, chuckle etc and keep on walking.
