Moving to Malta....

Hi everyone!

I am in the process of separating from my husband (amicably) and moving to Malta with my daughter and gorgeous cocker spaniel from the UK in December. My daughter has already got a place at Verdala International School.

I have been to Malta before and I fell in love with the island at first sight. I have only visited as a tourist three or four times and have visited some areas in Malta and Gozo but I am a little lost when it comes to the more practical side of day to day living such as suitable areas to rent for the first year, how to persuade landlords to accept my spaniel, where to take him for walks, grocery or household shopping, driving in Malta...you get the idea :) Also, I will know no one so ideas of meeting/making new friends would be helpful.

Hoping there may be a few of you who might set my mind at ease as I am quite nervous about the whole thing even though I'm really looking forward to a new beginning!

Good luck with the move. My better half moved to Malta in April, so I'm coming back and forth every three weeks. Three weeks in U.K. Then three weeks in Malta. I dont know many people here yet.
We live in Silema, its lovely, but we will most likely move further out in the future. I love Rabat.
Sounds exciting that you're going to move here. What a huge step.
There are lots of letting agents over here, they're really helpful. Lots of supermarkets, although they're not huge like the ones at home: there's a big Lidl that's really good and then there are smaller ones. There's a Waitrose equivalent, but I can't remember the name.
Driving is a bit crazy, well in Silema it is, o don't think there are any road rules there, and the traffic jams can be crazy, but further out, it's much more calm and civilised.
Any other questions let me know, I don't know too much yet myself but I have a lovely friend who I met when she picked me up from the airport and I can always ask her.
She is a taxi born and bred Maltese, so she knows all the right areas etc.
She's been so helpful to me, we even spent Saturday afternoon together, she took me out to show me all the good beaches and how Malta looks outside of Silema.
Good luck
X
