Car insurance (on family member's policy)

A quick question, I'm hearing contradicting stuff....

We are about to go halves on a car with my dad who lives in the UK. The deal is that we'd have priority access to it during summer/Christmas. The car would be in his name. Does anyone know if we can easily be added to the insurance policy as named drivers? I've heard that you have to use a specific broker or company as only a few offer insurance for expats?
We are non-resident but still UK citizens.
Thanks in advance.

why don't you try running a quote & seeing what comes back? I don't know but my SIL is a named driver in my MIL car & she lives overseas, it wasn't an issue adding her so my guess is that it is straightforward adding a additional named driver but less straightforward if you want to be the main driver.

It's not going to be easy. There are some companies that will cover you without a UK licence but not many (and I can't give examples). The issue isn't being resident overseas but the fact that in being resident your UK licence isn't valid. I know a lot of people who have thought they had insurance but it turned out they actually didn't.

Probably makes a difference whether your licence is French or something more exotic though!

My dad came over to visit and has a French driving license. We got temporary cover for a week so that he could drive our car. The temporary cover is for a maximum of 28 days at a time. You can get quotes on confused.com
