Australian Spouse Visa.... another question??!!

Can you please help me....??

My DH is in the process of applying for his visa but he is having a huge stress out about the medical part. He has in the past suffered from depression and has had 2 brief courses of A/Ds a few years ago and some counselling a year ago.

He is worried that this is going to work against him and he is going to be rejected and not given a visa. Therefore fucking our lives up and stopping me from going home (his words not mine).

I am really not worried as I think it is just a small blip and that millions of people have suffered with depression. It really isn't a big deal but he is making it one, constantly worrying and not able to sleep.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar with their application? Do you get interviewed face to face at any point?
Thanking you in advance!!

I can't say for sure but I think it would take A LOT for the Oz Govnt to deny you and your children (who are presumably aussie citizens by descent) the right to live back in your home country on that basis.

I worried incessantly when applying for my spouse visa as I had suffered a mild form of arthritis. It was fine, I was granted my visa within a matter of days of submitting my app. (although the Dr who examined me said I had maybe been too honest, and most people just lie and say they have had no past medical complaints!) In some cases if they have any concerns over your health that arise from the medical , they ask for a further medical exam to be done which merely delays the process. I think they only do this if they have serious concerns that you will be a drain on their health system so if he is all ok now it shouldn't be a problem at all.

My sister, suffered from depression and had to reveal it when her dh applied for a skills visa. It was no problem whatsoever, she had recovered by the time of the medical and made it claer it was all over with now and she was fine now etc

HTH, try not to worry, I know I did needlessy!

and no I had no face to face interview.
My general advice is to make sure you have ALL your documents and all the info they have asked for and it is a complete application etc before sending off, as after that the process should be pretty quick

We had to declare that dh took propanolol (beta blockers) for anxiety for a while. Also that I took drugs for a hernia, for IBS, for anemia....

We got accepted.

I know all of those are not AD's, but the dr who did our medicals said it takes a lot for them to refuse. He said HIV/AIDs isn't even a thing they refuse for these days....(not sure if correct or not).

They do, however refuse TB sufferers, as Oz is TB free at present & they want it to stay that way.

Hope that helps....

& no, I haven't had to have a face to face interview.

I did however have to have a medical for life insurance, which was due to the drugs I am/was on & the fact that I have had pre-eclampsia/c-section. They needed to confirm the BP was stable now.

Thank you so much for sharing your advice. I really hadn't even considered the possibility that he won't get the visa I just want some assurances for him.

We have also been frustrated by the fact the paperwork which his GP needed to fill out has still not been done even though they recieved it at the end of January. This alone has delayed the visa by 6 weeks...grr!!

We have been told that once everything is in order it is currently taking about 2 weeks for the Embassy to process and issue the visa. We have sent everything in and are now just waiting for the medical info.

Once again I thank you for these comforting posts!!!

Sandcastles - Has your niece recovered from her recent illness yet? I remember you were quite worried about her.

no face to face interview for dh. He just sent his paperwork in and got his passport back with his visa in it.

SL, thank you for asking.

She is getting better (she m/c at 23 weeks) but still very fragile. She would have been due soon & her mum is due in April & this isn't helping the situation at all.

She is getting there with lots of help!
