We are emigrating (initially on 2 year visa then if all works out going to apply for permanent after that) to Oz in May. With car insurance can you take your no claims with you?

Hi HH. We are moving to Oz in May and I have been wondering this exact same thing too. I will keep an eye on this. Sorry I am no help.
Where are you moving too?

Sunshine Coast - what about you?

I know when I emigrated the other way - all I needed was a letter from my insurer stating my rating and no claims history and that was fine. But coming back I had already had insurance before leaving for the UK, dh did the same - letter from UK company and they went from there.

SO I would ask your insurance company for a letter outlining your insurance history and stating your no claims status.

Melbourne. Actually I saw your other thread after I posted this where you are moving to.

I am Australian but have lived here for 10yrs and either cannot remember or never experienced a lot of home setting up things. Not sure if that last line makes sense!!

I have got my Dad on the look out for a car for us and the garage he is dealing with is selling us a car with road tax and insurance already sorted as part of the on road price. I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

Well that's one letter that we won't be getting. I had 4 years no claims until my DH had an incident with an uninsured motorbike in December.... feck feck feck!!

was your insurance in joint names - perhaps you can get them to do it just for you not dh iyswim. But they usually ask over a 5 year period from memory. SO if you have had one accident in 5 years and held no claims for 4 years - that would not be too bad.

You could also use a broker whose job it is - to get you the best possible deal. I would still get the letter because it proves a driving history rather than suddenly appearing in Aus with a licence but no history of car ownership and insurance.
