Have just had some great news that I dont need to do a year post-reg nursing to get into australia.

Apparently in Queensland you can work as a newly qualified nurse.

Can someone please give me the names of some major hospitals along the gold coast (prefer from Brisbane down to NSW nut not Brisbane itself) or if anyone knows of a central unit that deals with this sort of thing I would be really grateful. I have a contact in Cairns but dont want to go that far

TIA

Hi, I would look at here which will list all the public hospital jobs or here , which will list both public, private and agency positions.
In Brisbane, the 4 main public hospitals are the Mater, Royal Brisbane, Prince Charles and PA. Heading south of Brisbane there is Logan Hospital and the Gold Coast Hospital and north of Brisbane there's public hospitals at Redcliffe, Caboolture and Nambour. Quite a few private hospitals in and around Brisbane as well.
this might also be helpful. Just do a search on google australia and quite a few links come up for nursing in Queensland. Good Luck

Public hospitals are under the umbrella of Queensland Health. then you have a number of smaller private hospitals. Depends whether you want a big teaching hospital or a smaller one.

nursing jobs

Unfortunately most of the big hospitals are in Brisbane itself - although some are in the greater Brisbane area.

Hi, would check out Qld goverment site as they are activley recruiting in the UK at the moment, if you have the skills that they are looking for they may sponser you, you will have to stay with them for 3 years however you are free to move about jobs in the state after an initial period. Dont know where you are but they are in Scotland over march. If you really really ahve what they are looking for they have all sorts of insentives on offer. I am going with them but I have been a nurse for 17 years. Good luck

Best to try www,health.qld.gov.au/workforce sorry cant do links, best to have a map on hand when looking at the jobs on offer as what seems a great job is out in the sticks which might not be to your liking. There should be a link on there to their recruitment site, I hope that you have remembered that the pay is a lot less than here and newly qualified get about a D grade equivalent, however in general cost of living is less also. Happy studying.

giggly I would get a d grade here on qualifying so what would be the difference in Aus? sorry for all the questions but i have no idea whats what

Hi Mosschops,
Im living on the Gold Coast at the moment and working in a private hospital there. You will have no problem getting work here, they are desperate for nurses in all hospitals. Have you thought about applying for Australian Residency? I lived in the UK for 10 years and applied for it from there and i got it within 3 months because im a nurse. I am now free to work wherever i want and am not tied to one hospital as i would be with sponsorship.
Most nurses here are Level 1 which is the equivilant to a Grade D in the UK. Obviously the more qualified you are the more pay you get, but not much more. Eg I am Level 1 year 9 because i qualified in 1998. So you would be Level 1 year 1.
Level 2 is the same as the UK Grade E.
HTH, if you need any more info just sing out.

Oops forgot to check up on your progress sorry. you need to register with the Australian nursing body. You can do that online, will need proof of qualifications etc, I think their year runs from June or July and its about £60. I was told that it could take up to 5 months to process, so they recommend that you do this before leaving as you cannot work without it. Pretty much the same as NMC rules.
