if you are not working.

want to go because of somestic violence but presumably theere aren't any refuges you can go to and you won't be entitled to social housing and won't be able to claim benefit.

also once you are living there if you dont come back to the UK would you still need to keep passports up t date they are so expensive now

You can claim benifit anywhere in the EU. But sorry don't know much about the rest, would CAB be able to help with this?

zippitippitoes · 09/03/2007 11:15

did you post before as there was a recent post?

I'm sure it would be very hard unless you have contacts somewhere. Is there really no route you could follow in the uk, do you feel as though you have tried and failed here?

annetizzismum · 09/03/2007 11:17

yes i posted on other subects thught i'd see if anyone else had any comments, i ust wish i knew someone in another country who wanted a lodger!

well I don't know for sure but I'd imagine if your baby was born in another EU country, that country would have to provide for you.

Do you have any particular country in mind?

Wouldn't it be very hard though, being abroad when you don't know the ropes or any people or perhaps even the language trying to cope with a small child and a baby?

ernest · 09/03/2007 11:35

maybe look for work as au pair or in hotel or something that would provide accomodation

tbh, if you don't speak the language and you're skint and you don't know anyone, it'd be unbelievably difficult, much harder than you might imagine.

ernest · 09/03/2007 11:38

oh, just seen you're pg. blimey. is there really no way of staying in uk or even going to ireland (at least langugae won't be a problem). It's really a lot harder than you'd think.

If you're hell bent, I guess you need to look at places with big UK expat community at the very least, obv Spain springs to mind.

But like I said, given the circumstances you describe, it would be really really hard. I'm so sorry you feel you're in a position where this seems to be your best way forward.

best wishes.
(((hugs)))

I think even people who choose to go overseas as the start of a new life find it hard.

Where were you thinking of going? Do you have any resources to fall back on financially, family, friends or a language or skills?

With two children accommodation will be hard to find at a reasonable price.

Lodging with a family doesn't seem a likely proposition. If you stayed in a hostel you would be with a diffrent culture.

Wouldn't a different part of the Uk be a possibility?

annetizzismum · 09/03/2007 15:49

i suppose it will have to be,i speak german so if i could get somewhere there language wouldnt be a problem, even a womens aid refuges in the channel islands wont have me

I've no idea how you would go about turning up in another country with nothing unless you had someone to help you out when you got there

and unless you already knew some

ernest · 09/03/2007 16:23

we moved abroad a few years ago. DH & me & ds & pg with ds2. Moving abroad to a foreign country, egtting maternity services n place, learning the ropes etc was tremendously hard, and that was with the help of dh & largely paid by his work. I cannot imagine doing it alone and an a shoestring. I guess htese reguges are always in great demand, so surely a foreigner just arrived would be bottom of list?

I really hate to be negative, but I have moved abroad with small child and pg and it was hard, and I had a lot more help & support than you by the sounds of it.

Have you no one at all to help you? You mentioned trying to get into a channel islands place - do you live there? or just desp. to get off UK?

Re your Q. about passport, I presume it's same in eu - we get ours done at consulate. It is a lot more expensive than getting done in UK, as was registering the birth, but hey, lots of things are more expensive here.

zippitippitoes · 09/03/2007 16:29

I am sounding very negative too which I imagine is the last thing you want

I looked up or tried to find some references to refuges and domestic violence for women in spain, belgium and germany and the story seems to be that there is very little chance of places with many people being turned away from the samll number of refuges

the law in germany tries to get the perpertrator to move out and banned from the family home but this a doesn't work for long periods and means there are fewer refuge places avaialble

in spain it is only recently that domestic violence has become recognised and again there is great pressure on resources

have you had contacts with refuges, aid etc here?

annetizzismum · 09/03/2007 16:41

been turned away from refuges here as they feel risk is too great dont live in channel islands but want to go as far as poss

I haven't read your original thread. Do you have any revenue apart from benefits?

zippitippitoes · 09/03/2007 16:55

I don't get the impression that germany is the most sympathetic country for poor immigrants

have the people you have spoken to offered any advice..

I fidn it hard to know how you could arrange anything without being in the country concerned and homeless

hopefully I am wrong

annetizzismum · 10/03/2007 08:38

i have a few hundrer in savings not a lot

You could try your local mp as a source of support if you are struggling to find somewhere to go.

Alternatively if you could get a credit card or loan and get as much cash or saleable goods on it as possible. And go to another European country and find the cheapest accommmodation and try to get help from a womens refuge but they are turning people away everywhere.

Sorry if that sounds silly.
