Saw on admylin's grunting and squeaking animals thread that you're going abroad for a year. Take me with you please.
Seriously, hope you're OK.

I will take you both with me

Thanks for asking, yes, I'm fine. I just feel that if I don't want to settle here I should try something else and see whether the grass really is greener elsewhere IYSWIM. I may well race back to Berlin with my tail between my legs, grunting and squeaking. Who knows? Feel strong enough to tackle it these days and it is really not to bad a time school wise since dd will only be missing year 2. Year 3 would be more of a problem I should think. Also in terms of my own situation, I am getting on so if I do want to uproot myself, better sooner than later.

Of course it is really all Admylin's fault, one look at that year 2 homework and I was googling "schools in New Zealand".

Count us in!
I wish I could go somewhere like that to try it out for a year, if we move we have to pack up everything and there will be no going back. It's good to have a base to go back to. Still, ready to risk it though!

I know New Zealand to an extent already though Admylin. However it has probably changed a great deal in the meantime. I would really like to go somewhere totally new but I have to find a place I can realistically stay, where I know people and where schooling will not be in a third language. I would very much like to take dd to South Africa for a year but don't think it's feasible. I was born in Africa and I would love to spend some time there again.

As it is I could stay in New Zealand or Australia (and also work there) no problems at all. Other countries are more difficult.

New Zealand sounds tempting but maybe that's from watching all those "Making of the Lord of The Rings" DVDs
Of course the grass is always greener, it's an optical illusion
