We have been dreaming of emigrating to perth for somethime now and have our first trip planned in novemeber.
The only problem is that my partner doesnt have a trade, he has a job which he contracted with until retirement and has pension and everything, but is just a general worker, odd job man and even does cleaning. Its with a very big company.
Niether of us have degrees or much along the lines of qualifications and I am a sahm and previously have just worked in shops and bars.
We have 2 children.
On the plus side we do have close family relatives out there that can sponser us as soon as they get their citizenship.
We are home owners if that helps?!

Do we have a hope in hell?

There's an outline of the different visas here But it doesn't sound from what you said as if you're likely to qualify - if it was that easy to emigrate to Australia all the migration agents would be out of business! There's a good forum here where you could ask.

Sorry not to be more positive, maybe there's some way you could qualify for immigration but if your partner's retired he'll be too old for skilled migration, and with dependent children you can't apply for a retirement visa.

lol nos hes far from retirement, i meant he had a 30 odd year contract.

You need o have a skilled trade, being sponsered helps but isn't enough by itself unless you have a substantial amount of money to take with you.
Me and dh have been looking into it, he has done an nvg in horticultuer and this is enough for him to be a 'qualified' gardener and is on the skills list.
The best thing your dh could do is re train. ot as hard as it sounds. He needs to look on the skills list ans see what he would like to do. If it's definately Perth you want they are crying out for Brick Layers as there is a huge property boom out there at the moment, or other trades such as plumbing/electrition etc...

Adelaide is desperate for Hairdressers!!!!! Seriously

he has done and nvq not and nvg

Oh I see - your OP was slightly confusing! I agree that if he could retrain into a trade that would be your best route in - look up the MODL (Migration Occupations in Demand List) and there's all sorts on there. Although he may then need some relevant work experience, or else line up a job before you go there.

Do visit the British Expats forum, you'll get all the info you need there.

Think either one of you needs to re-train.

My friend has just started her nursing degree as neither her or her dh had enough points, its a 3 year degree though.

I know they also want things like bakers/cooks/hairdresser/electricians/carpenters/diesel fitters/mechanics/midwives, although dont know if any of these are less time to train or of any interest to you

Hi I posted the same question here a couple of days ago, I'm in similar situation to you ie no transferable skills, the advice has been the same: retrain. If you have close relatives this can help (I have relatives but only uncles and aunts etc) also I think if you are willing to avoid the very popular areas (move to the Bush!) then you might get extra points.

A registered migration expert is apparently the best source of advice although they do charge (of course) for consultation.

If you are retraining might as well start NOW while you put the rest of your plans in place; I started thinking about Oz about two years ago...if I had been on the ball enough to sign up for something then, I could be almost about to leave!

Good luck!

thanks everyone, It is my brother and sil that are out there already,
WOuld it make any difference if my brother had lined my parttner up with a good job? He can 100% secure him a job.
Otherwise it looks like re training! Can we both just pick a nvq to do from home/college or do we need something higher?
