Nothing now just happily on mat leave used to work in tourism but doubt I will go back I just enjoy being a mum. I know Como pretty well I have a friend who has her own B&B ( no children just dogs) also used to know a few people on Maggiore but not sure if they are still there now. Are you working or being a casalinga ?

Erm Italian...Like not much. Pregnancy and hospital were fine ( bit different to the Uk from what I can gather) as was Pn care. had a nurse kind of HV visit and they run a weekly clinc sort of weigh in babies and chat zone which is great but its is more for smaller babes. Now Dd is 11 mths there is nothing . No clubs , classes etc I have made a few mum friends but its not the done thing to come round and have a coffee more meet and go for a walk with babies and in this weather its a bit fo a no go. What about you ?
How about the Italian in laws how have you found them ?

Much the same. We just moved to this area when dd was about to be born so had no knowledge of what services were like. Now I now there are not any!I didn't get any type of visit, pediatrian is in neighbouring town as the local one (walking distance) was full! And he doens't ever do home visits, not even for payment! Was quite lonely to start with but then dd started at nursery and I went bk to wrk.Still don't know many mums in the area though as ones from nido are all from different towns.Hope this will improve when dd starts Materna in september. Been lucky with inlaws as not interfering but the opposite. They are afraid to offend so have to ask them 10 times before they do something even though they are dying to!! Wierd!

I have on MIL and one SIL both good hearts but their way is the right way as they don't know any other ! From cloting to weaning to shoes ( sore point that). DH just says go with the flow say yes but do yr own thing eaiser said ... You should have seen their faces when I produced a grobag!!!( MIL was paranoid about cold hands and arms so I said I put a cardigan on the top ( not)
AGree it does get really lonely esp when you see all that is on offer in the UK. DD not going to Nido as all the good ones full so we will put in materna at 2 1/2 - 3. I might go back and do a bit of PT but will be freelance so can coincide with dh and his job. Thankfully here doc is walking well boat distance and apparently will visit in really bad circumstances but only if child has high temp.
Do you get back to Scotland much ? and other q I have is is yr dd bi lingual ?

Ery71 · 09/02/2007 14:44

Shouldn't really complain about my PIL as they keep dd in afternoons until I come back from wrk.Mornings until 1 she is at nido.I always speak English to her as I want her to be able to maintain good relations with her family in Scotland.Unfortunately I am her only input as dh, etc all speak in Italian only.Always read Eng books and watch DVDs in Eng to increase the awareness and try to get over to scotland as much as poss.
