Are you local born and bred, or a later arrival?

I'm Aussie, married a Kiwi, but been here almost 4 years.

MrsJohnCusack · 08/02/2007 08:54

hello
we only moved here last September from London, but my parents are Kiwis and have been doing half the year here and half in London for the past 12 years or so - they've just moved back here for good too.
Have 2 year old DD and new baby due 2 weeks today. DH is still the great unwashed (i.e. unemployed) but he is applying for jobs, I am going to be SAHM but hopefully with some music work here and there - first job is playing in Cats (snigger - nafftastic) in April at the Isaac Theatre Royal.
and DD and I go to nearlyfourbob's music classes. We live in Beckenham
so that's us
what about you?

I thought there was someone else yawningmonster - sorry, couldn't remember your name!

yawningmonster · 08/02/2007 09:29

I have a 2 and a half year old boy and ttc no. 2 at the moment. Have worked part time for Plunket for the last year but giving it up on Monday, just wasn't working out for us as a family. DH is in IT industry and also does hunting and tramping so often disappears to the bush. We are out in the off skirts (Rolleston). Love musicals and would love to see cats particularly at such a well named theatre (ds)

cheekychick · 08/02/2007 09:36

cheekychick · 08/02/2007 09:43

we want to do the ski fields n drive around the south island this winter n catch up with family in Gore and Greymouth. Can you recommend some nice family friendly places in Christchurch and ski fields to go we are going to Queenstown as well.

nearlyfourbob · 08/02/2007 18:00

Don't really ski but am something of an expert on family friendly in ChCh. What do you want?

MrsJC Cats - cool.

vizbizz · 08/02/2007 23:01

I have ds who is 1 on Monday. I wanted to have more, but after the horrors of the last year, he may end up an only child.

We are in Hoon Hay. The name tickled my Aussie humour, and I just had to buy here

Still feeling a bit lonely, all the people I know are generally the ones I met through work...and I am not going back to work...can't. Miss the family lots!

I am going mad thanks to long-term pain. The pain is finally settling, but it's been too long, and brain feels like it is still in meltdown.....so apologies in advance if I sometimes sound confusing!

vizbiz we had a pretty harrowing first year too and it has taken me more than a year after that to pluck up the courage to try again. Cheekychick I am afraid we aren't skiers either. Fourbob congrats on your diploma, you should be well chuffed with yourself.

nearlyfourbob · 09/02/2007 19:55

I have a good friend who has a graphic design business and needs 2 more designers - if that would help out any of you new(ish) to Christchurch people then let me know and I'll send the details.

MrsJohnCusack · 10/02/2007 04:12

oh if only DH could do graphic design - at the moment he is not even getting any interviews for anything and it's all a bit depressing.

Have also been looking after my parents this week to further the miserableness - mother had a hip replacement just over a week ago, father seems to be on the verge of collapse so I have been doing a lot of carrying/shopping/helping/wiping up wee (don't ask) and mediating between 2 v.grumpy oldsters which at 38 wks pregnant with SPD is not ideal. Now I'm not sure that they're up to looking after DD whilst baby is born so I may be doing that without DH - arrrgggh. sorry, totally irrelevant rant there!

vizbizz - sounds like you have had quite a year, so sorry - you're not far from me in Hoon Hay (it is a comedy name, my dad lived there as a student and it always made us giggle when he talked about it). And I drive so can go anywhere, so if you ever fancy meeting up let me know. Am probably no company at the moment, but after the baby gets here I hope to be back in circulation and start meeting some more people - I only know a few people at the moment.
or maybe we could do a ChCh meet up?

yawningmonster, tickets are on sale for Cats right now I think it should be quite a good production...the company seems v.professional and past things look good.

vizbizz · 10/02/2007 04:19

I'd like to meet up sometime, that would be nice. dh usually has the car, but a city meet up could work too

Sounds like you have a lot going on tho! How are you coping ...and at 38 weeks? Wow!

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 10/02/2007 04:25

oh I'm fine! I just didn't expect to have to do so much with my mother - really quite worried about my father, he seems even iller than usual...
I knew part of the deal with us moving here would be taking increasing responsiblity for my ageing parents. I just didn't think it would be so soon....anyway, my sister is out in March so I will have plenty of help for a few weeks which will be great. And I think my mother will be fine in a couple of weeks - she's just a bloody awful patient.

yawningmonster · 10/02/2007 08:24

Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time especially at 38wks pregnant!!! Hope things improve soon.

nearlyfourbob · 10/02/2007 08:48

Bloomin heck MrsJC - let me know if I can do anything, and I mean that - really let me know, tell me in bold 20 point impact font exactly what and I'll do it. I don't really do wee though unless the wee-er is under 5.

MrsJohnCusack · 10/02/2007 10:42

honestly I'm fine, just absolutely knackered & fed up & sore
but I will let you know if there's anything fourbob. Thanks! (and thanks for sympathy eveyone)
I didn't mean to come on here and moan but I just couldn't help it...I think they will be much better in a few weeks.

SSShakeTheChi · 10/02/2007 11:02

Sounds like you're having a real ball there! Have you asked the neighbours to help out with dd when you go into hospital? There's no harm in asking. Or maybe your GP has a bright idea. I don't think you can rely on your dp helping under these circumstances.

nearlyfourbob · 10/02/2007 17:58

My lovely friends live on your street - I really should introduce you to them because it would be handy to know someone on the street. They have a 6 year old so they are trained in the art of little girls (and have lots of pink toys)

MrsJohnCusack · 10/02/2007 21:35

ah you're all so nice
DD still, thank goodness, more into planes, cars and trains!. maybe the new baby (a boy) will be more into the pink stuff...got to try to sort him out before NZ sports mania gets hold of him as DH is terrified he might have to pretend to take an interest

I do have friends quite close by with a 1 yer old daughter who will be able to help out depending on what time it all kicks off. The plan is to try to stay at home as long as possible. Also, if I do hang on another week, my cousin will be around and if I go REALLY late/end up being induced my sister will be here. So there is a kind of plan(!)

vizbizz · 11/02/2007 02:05

Of course we're all nice. Isn't that the whole point of being on mumsnet? ;)
