We are mulling over emigrating to Oz. We are thinking of having a holiday there to have a look see (Brisbane or Adelaide)...where would be the place to look for accommodation? Is there something similar to Travelodge out there?? We would be there for a few weeks, with at least 2 children. Does anybody have any views on Brisbane/Adelaide also?

Sorry did not mean to scare you, I dont like the heat too much but redshoes is right you do aclimatise, you will find it hot at first but in the months you are going it will be cooler and beautiful warm days. Eidsvold is right jan/feb are the killers just like UK jan/feb is always hardest isn't it the lull after christmas. I agreed much easier to be in an airconditioned car/house/shopping centre and kids play outside a whole lot more. I hardly had the tv on at all. My sons school had a pool and they swam 3/4 times a week.

Redshoes is right check out southeast qld -- Bayside is the redlands shire. So from Tingalpa/Carindale/Gumdale/Wynnum/Manley/Wellington point/Cleveland/Alexandra Hills/Capaplaba/Victoria Point/Thonrlands/Birkdale/ormiston/mount cotton. and the islands stradbroke etc Obviously the closer to the water more expensive it is. Cleveland has lots of old age pensioners, but a shopping precinct/library good restaurants. Capaplaba has 2 big shopping cnetres with target/big W, K-mart, coles. woolies etc Carindale is a huge shopping centre with lots of upmarket shops myer and david jones. Wynnum/manly esplanade - coffee shops, paddling pool, beach, park to play. I guess it depends on what type of house you are looking for - an old queenslander (wooden) or single story or brick double, or a new house...

Bayside swings around to the southside linking to the pacific highway- Beenleigh./

There is a good private school Ormiston college in ormiston. and popular girls school Moreton Bay college in Wynnum. Iona College for boysin Lindum. I think the state primaries are great.

If you hire/buy a car you can go anywhere. I dont; think you can get by without a car it is a lot more spread out than UK, melbourne/sydney that said there are trains into the city and busses but with little children it is much easier to have a car

have you found any accomodation?

sorry for the long post

Sunshinefairy, thanks. Not booked yet, want to do some more research re where to look. Not looking for 'period' property - fancy a complete change, something ultra-modern. Need to be near water, accessible to the city (interested in trains/buses as not v. keen on driving), near stuff for small children. Will do some research on schools too before we book. Thanks again x

If you want to be near the water and on train/bus line then I would look bayside. you'll love it.
