Are there any Mumsnetters in teh Perth area who could give me any advice about school/ nursery in Perth.
We will be moving there in June for a year and boys will be 2 and 4.5. Aiming to rent in Cottesloe or surroundings but cannot seem to get concrete info on school for 4 yo.
any help gratefully appreciated!!

My SIL and BIL have just moved to the Perth area for a year and have children of a similar age to your own. I think they're renting near Cottesloe too. We're not yet in email contact with them, but I will try and find out about schools through MIL who is in contact. What will you be doing out there?

Flumpleton · 29/01/2007 18:58

That would be fab - thx, would be great to get any info or hear of people nearby
DH is a hosp doctor and has a years contract over there. I on the other hand will be a lady of leisure!

Hi flumpleton. I'm in Perth and have been for 1 year. There are a couple more MNers on here that I know of living out here. No doubt they will say hello when they see this.

I am not in Cottesloe, so don't know anything about schools there. I am starting to look at schools for my dd and have noticed alot of them have very good websites. So might be worth having a google.

Cottesloe is lovely. I have friends arriving on monday and at some point we will be heading that way for fish and chips on the beach - yum.

ALso. We are Flying Emirates. Any ideas on how child friendly they are or are not??

We have flown emirates twice with dd and have had no problems. I spoke with them before hand and they let me pre book our seats as we had a young child with us. They also let us have extra baggage allowance as we were emigrating, but check with them which visa you have to have to qualify for that.

The air staff were brill and made a real fuss of all the kids and at one point even took dd for a walk round the plane. They have the individual telly screens which might come in useful for entertaining the kids. I would recommend you take snacks for the kids as the food is a bit hit and miss.

We aren't emigrating but will be there over a year in total so will definitely see if we can get extra baggage allowance. have been panicking about getting our life into 4 cases. great tip - thanks
where abouts in perth do you live humpy?

I am in Canning Vale, not that far from Cottesloe.

NottsMum · 06/02/2007 22:04

Humpydumpy - sorry to butt in but what's Canning Vale like? We're hoping to move over to Perth in 2-3 months (house sale and visa permitting) and are looking at settling South of the River.

Any general info would be really useful, particularly primary schools in the area.

Many thanks

NM

Good luck! I'm in Sydney for a year. We've been here just over two weeks.

sunnywong · 07/02/2007 04:01

Notts mum, you still have my email don't you? Let me know if I can help in anyway

NottsMum · 07/02/2007 22:49

Thanks for offering to help, tis much appreciated!

Hi NottsMum. I have just seen your message, I have friends over from the UK at the moment so have not been on the computer in the last few days.

I have been in Canning Vale 1 year and have settled really well. There are loads of new houses going up everywhere in the area and lots of new shopping centres/supermarkets. I find it really child friendly as there are parks everywhere (3 in our small estate alone) and plenty of child care centres if you need them. It is a new area so there is no real character to the area and it is the typical suburbia, but I'd say a good safe bet until you get to know Perth better.

School wise, it is something I am starting to investigate as my DD doesn't start kindy till next year. I have spoken to neigbours etc. who have all told me that standard wise you can't really go wrong with any of the schools in the area. I have looked at Campbell Primary School, which is our nearest (they have a good website). It is large school though. The other school I am going to investigate is Ranford Primary, which I have been told is alot smaller.

Hope that is of some help. If you want any more info I am happy to help and can give you my email if you want.

NottsMum · 08/02/2007 11:37

Thanks for the info HD, that's really helpful. My father-in-law emailed me this morning saying that one of his friend's is an ex Headmaster over in Perth (retired a year ago), so I'll ask if he can find out anything on Canning Vale primary schools.

If you give me your email address I can let you know if I find out anything useful.

Hi nottsmum. I would be a great help if you could give me any info you have on the schools in the area. It's so hard trying to make the right choice.

You can email me on [email protected]. Would be nice to hear from you and hopefully have a meet up when you get here.
