Are there any Mums living in the Caribbean with small children. I am 8 months pregnant and due to have the baby around the 12th March. My husband is due to start his new job in the British Virgin Islands on the 2nd April and I really need some advice on what to take with me and also advice on how to cope with a small baby and toddler when away from all my family and friends!!!!!

Did you have a good birth with your first baby? Did he or she come on time? You might find flying, so soon after having a baby, not very practical. Can you stay behind for a few weeks?

Well, good luck with new baby, DH new job and new home.
you can search for "know before you go" stuff on
www.fco.gov.uk.
where it does say there is only 1 hospital blah blah,,, so take a small medical kit. Also do some mosquito bite research as it can be a real pain for little ones.
Sounds nice though.

my first birth was fine, baby came on due date, fairly normal labour and out of hospital within 12 hours. Breastfeeding worked really well so I am hoping that the same will apply with this new baby. Only problem was lots of pain for at least a month after birth and also bleeding for about 10 weeks.

Thanks wotzaname, i have been there to have a look at the place and so know a bit (!) about what i am letting myself in for. midwife said that flying for me might be a slight problem but need to keep moving and not drinking alcahol etc and keep fluids up but apart from that all should be fine. I am more concerned with will i have everything i need out there, what should i take with me and also finding a place to live when i have a toddler and newborn to sort out!

Well, that's good - means you have a hope of things going the same way this time. But you might want to have a backup plan, in case anything unpleasant happens (late baby, section, whatever) that makes flying impractical.

I think there's a thing about not taking babies under a certain age on long flights - under two weeks?

I'll email you this evening

Make sure you make the appointment to register the birth asap and then get passport immediately!

You won't have time to be on the 'Boy's/girl's names' MN for days after the birth trying to make up your mind!

Good luck - it sounds fantastic.
