My DH has been asked to narrow down a list of European countries he would be prepared to move to for work (would include me and DC 6 and 3). We are finding it very hard as we don't know much about living anywhere other than the UK.
Would anyone be able to offer any advice on specific countries - think pretty much all major cities in Europe!
Vienna, Brussels, Prague, Paris, Munich, Athens, Dublin, Milan, Rome, Lisbon, Madrid, Lucerne, Stockholm....

You will need to learn a local language if you don't speak any already. Will company fund that? The expat bubble can be very isolating and turnover of families means keeping friends is harder. Yes many countries will have English speaking professionals but it makes life so much easier if you can book appointments with receptionists over the phone , read food and medicine packets, go to post office, read official documents , attend local playgroups etc. Bureaucracy can be overwhelming too. Switzerland is particularly traditional as far as role of women is concerned and expat jobs especially around school hours pretty competitive. International schools tend not to correspond to UK curriculum so you may well be faced with a transition period on return.

I have done moves with kids of a similar age:
age 4 ds - to Austria - ds attended local kindergarten and school, no expat community
Age 8 and 2 from Austria to China - international school with british curriculum, large expat community but there is a high turnover/
Agree with LIZS - you need to learn the local language wherever you go and lot of international schools follow EYP and MYP rather than the British curriculum. Wherever you go it's a good idea to keep up to date with what's happening in the UK education system if you plan to move back to the UK and want your children to find it easy to slot back in.

International School here in Switzerland follows UK curriculum. Not as patriarchal a society as some would have you believe. Agree speaking the local language really helps.

They don't all mumhum. Many do IB. PYP is nothing like eyfs and ks1 for example.
