Recovered and returned. As you can see this is the year I plan to take up Tai Chi (not that I've done anything about it yet).

You told me once that you were working with the English curriculum at home and I was wondering 1) where you get the patience to do that after doing the German homework and 2) which books/materials you've been using

Isn't that a great idea, amazing things happen on MN! We will not be here that weekend as we're going to Frankfurt to meet someone visiting from Pakistan - also don't forget I think you have to register walks at the bürgeramt from a certain number of people. I'll see if dh knows the people who are researching the sudden infant death at the charite hospital where he works - maybe the german version of the group would join in if they know of it.

SSShakeTheChi · 09/02/2007 09:06

Hi FIT. Yes, I'm not sure either this far ahead of time whether we're going to be here 12 May. Offhand I seem to remember there were a lot of days of school in May for one thing and another. So if it is a long weekend, we'll probably be in Dresden. Keep us informed, a bit nearer the date I'd be able to say for sure. If we're here, I would come along. Not sure about my chances of buying a pink balloon here though. Never seen any that colour.

So how is pregnancy going? How are you feeling about it after all you've been through? By the way I know of a 4 room flat if you're still coming to Berlin, doesn't have a garden though and it's in Wilmersdorf (1st floor).

Take care and keep crashing in. Good to "see" you.

Thanks you two. Shame you won't be around, admylin - SSS, I'll let you know if and when I manage to get anything sorted. (Bet we'd be against some Vorschriften or other if we release balloons ).
I am TIRED. I do NOT remember feeling this crushingly tired with ds. It's really beginning to get on my nerves (that and the worry aspect, of course). Roll on 2nd trimester!
Thanks for the info about the flat - we're currently looking for a 3 room with garden, but Wilmersdorf is on our list. Ideally I want to move to Friedenau.

SSShakeTheChi · 09/02/2007 09:16

Oh being tired. I remember THAT and the constipation. That was a pita - literally. It did get better though. I think after 12 weeks the tiredness passed. I'd go shopping and then come home and go straight to bed! Lie down as much as you can, even in the middle of the day, take it easy and think really positively if you can. The baby is great, lovely and healthy and everything will go really well.

Admylin, in the end we all went to the Egyptian Museum at the weekend. I found it really good. We went round the Egyptian Museum by ourselves, then did the Familienführung at 3pm and then wandered round the Greek/Roman exhibition and bought about 20 books from the bookstore. It was a good day, we all enjoyed it.

Told dh he should go there after work on Thursdays -think they're open till 10pm- and buy us some new books once a week. They have some good books on archaeology/history that you don't find in Hugendübel or Düssman.

Have you ever been in the Deutsches Museum on Unter den Linden? I haven't. Was wondering whether dd would find it interesting.

SSShakeTheChi · 16/02/2007 09:22

arggh "been to" I meant to say

dd is invited to a princess party after school today so having a very lazy day all in all

OP posts:
admylin · 16/02/2007 11:50

Can't wait for the weekend, I'm so tired this week - last night I was so tired I went to bed at the same time as the kids. Dh didn't get back from his lab till 7am this morning! Never been to the museum you mentioned but we loved the Egypt exibhition. Did you buy books for yourself or for dd?
I've oredered a few at Dusmanns but need to wait 3 weeks and some on Amazon, I can't be without books! Would be nice if there was a book club for brits in berlin where we could swap and lend good books to each other.

SSShakeTheChi · 16/02/2007 13:43

Bought two for dd on Egypt although she really doesn't need any more books on that subject. She would have had a complete fit otherwise though. The rest were for us.

Can empathise totally with you feeling tired. Maybe it's being back at school. I wish school started at 9, then I wouldn't be feeling so drained all the time.

Our weekends are not really restful though.

Heard anything about Boston?

OP posts:
admylin · 20/02/2007 09:27

No, still waiting for feed back from Boston and Chicago. The longer they leave it the less likely he is to be invited for an interview I think, but there will be plenty of others ...trying to think positive.

SSShakeTheChi · 20/02/2007 09:30

Have you had a chance to look into your distance studying any further? I think that sounded really good.

OP posts:
admylin · 20/02/2007 09:35

Still trying to get info together, wanted to start a course but waiting to find out the exam details - no point starting if I won't be able to go to UK for the exam.

SSShakeTheChi · 23/02/2007 10:37

I think getting started will be the difficult thing, you know. Shame you wouldn't have the companionship of actually being at university with other students though.

I read on another thread that you'd considered training to be a translator once. Have you entirely given up on that? Look at me pushing you to do things and doing b* all myself!

We had our second Elternabend last night. The teachers were all very enthusiastic - all the kids can do everything. Don't believe it myself. Really really like our class teacher though. Love the way she handled the parents, especially the show-off types, who have to let the whole class know that their dc can read the ingredients on a packet of soup or whatever.

We have another busy weekend ahead trying out other swimming schools. Really would like one dd could go to at the weekend. She already has so much to do after school.

Hi, just got onto my computer atlast today! We've got guests and one of them has been hogging my computer all morning so now I've sent him off to stand and wait in the line to go up in the Reichstag!
Yes, my dream in my youth when I still had a 100% functioning brain was to be a translator french/english and I would like to do german but I'm stuck as I can't get over that line that I seem to have reached in order to write perfect german . It bugs me because after living in France I could speak and write near perfect french (that's all blown away in the wind now any way!)
One of our guests has been encouraging me all morning though, I've got to do something! The OU idea falls through as a module taken in Europe costs about 1300 pounds instead of average 500 pounds if taken in the UK. You need a hell of a lot of modules to get a degree!
By the way, I would also prefer a weekend swimming lesson for dd, we can't manage any more in the week, we'd never get the homework done. Let me know what you find , they might be able to go together. Those ones you linked me to from the university sounded good at Fischerinsel pool but weekend would be nice.

SSShakeTheChi · 08/03/2007 08:57

Hi Admylin,
How are you feeling today? Is dd at home? Sorry you're having all the hassle with school. It's the worst part of being a mum, isn't it?

workshop

Hi Admylin, if you're here over Easter, do you think your dc would be interested in this workshop? I would sign dd up for it if we don't get away. Still nothing organised! But I'm hoping we will go overseas.

OP posts:
admylin · 25/03/2007 15:28

SSShake, sounds good but would they let dd join in as it says "ab 8". You're right about sorting some activities out now because our hoped for visitors can't make it at easter. Still hope we'll have a friend here for a few days but the rest of the holiday is going to very long!

SSShakeTheChi · 25/03/2007 17:10

She's 7, isn't she, admylin? In which case, I would take her along. They won't know she isn't 8, will they? I quite often take dd to things for 7 year olds and so on because I know she has no problem concentrating and so on. She's quite a mature 6 year old. Hope the weather stays nice for the Easter break. We're still looking into our (very) last minute break. Looks like Egypt but the server is down all weekend so can't book it!

OP posts:
admylin · 25/03/2007 17:40

yes, they won't be checking passports I suppose !! Ds's teacher told me there is some good stuff on at FEZ in the holidays too - she thought it was something to do with science for kids. Have to check that out.

SSShakeTheChi · 25/03/2007 17:52

Their programme always sounds interesting but I can never be bothered trekking all the way out there. Perhaps in summer

OP posts:
admylin · 25/03/2007 18:01

It would definately only be worth it as a whole day out it is quite far. It's like that technische museum you once suggested to us, it's a big day trip for that one. Kids were exhausted and refuse to go back in the near future!
We went to the Europa birthday party at Brandenburger Tor today, thought it would be OK early so we went half an hour before the official start and it was packed. The security was very high, infront of the British council stand there were always police lined up. we didn't bother going in, it puts you off abit.
