Move to Dublin

Can anyone please suggest a good residential area to look for housing and good local(National) primary schools, preferably multi-denominational or non-denominational if there are any on the fringe of the city center? Not sure of the work place yet but priority will be to look for schools first and then find a place to stay near the school.

Getting a school can be a huge problem in Dublin, unless your children are baptised Catholics.

There are very few multi denominational schools (known as Educate Together) and they tend to be massively oversubscribed. Most schools (90 odd percent) are Catholic.

Housing is expensive and can be difficult to secure if you're going to be renting. We have a bit of a housing crisis going now.

Generally speaking people will tell you south Dublin is nicer, but the north of the city has lovely areas too, just as the south has some bad ones. Odd numbered postcodes are north of the Liffey, even numbered ones are south. I live in a new built in D13 and love area.

I'd personally recommend finding somewhere along the DART (train) it Luas (tram) if you want to have he use of public transport as busses can be hugely unreliable.

We live in Ballsbridge, just on edge of city centre and our kids attend non-denominational school that I know there are places available at. Fee paying (although they state the fee is 'voluntary'), and we're v happy with it. PM me for more details if you'd like!
