The film star in disguise sounds a bit dodgy

Not living in N. Italy yet - but watch this space. We have just sold our house and will be moving in April sometime - as long as the sale goes through. We are going to be living with dh's family in Trentino until we sort something out more permanently. Real village life! Are there any hints and tips about life in Northern Italy? I'm looking forward to learning the language so that I can find out all about the cartoons that you have mentioned! (DS is 13mths old)

franca70 · 18/02/2007 21:20

Trentino is nice. It's a wealthy area, thanks to turism and its status of region with a special constitution. Therefore you can probably expect decent healthcare and schools etc. not to mention that you'd be pretty close to the sky slopes! dh worked for a few months in rovereto, which is very nice, although no one is around after 7 o' clock...

Agree what Franca said about Trentino its lovely and a good area . Good luck with the language they speak German and a local dialect in the hills as well . When you do get your house get Sky as your dd can get a top up of English cartoons as well but I still can't get Teletubbies in English so have DVD !

Thanks - am getting v. excited now. I've also heard of a thing called a springbox which you can plug into a tv in UK and log in to it wirelessly from anywhere, saw it in a magazine so I'll be looking into that - I am sure Desperate Housewives etc won't be the same in Italian! I've seen the Italian Friends and it seems really strange for the gang to have different voices! We've just had the sale agreed on our house, so are planning the move as we speak! Can't Wait!

franca70 · 21/02/2007 13:53

tantik, I know, since moving to england I hate to see friends, or dh, or er etc dubbed in italian!

Rosa5 · 21/02/2007 15:46

Ooh Tantik tell me more about that Springbox. DOnt worry about Desperate H you can get it on Sky in original language. ER seems to be the re runs on Fox and you get Eastenders about a week behind the UK on BBC Prime . BBC Prime really annoys me however as apart from Eastenders it is all re runs on re runs it used to be much better .

TantiK · 21/02/2007 19:13

I saw the springbox in the telegraph magazine - someone was raving about it as essential for when he is travelling around. I think it costs about £150 - I found the website by doing a search on google for springbox. The website wasn't great, i.e. I couldn't really work out how it worked, but perhaps there are other websites that help with it. As far as I can tell you plug it into a tv in the uk and if you have a wireless connection on your computer then you log in to it wirelessly - I think it only works with wireless, but as I said I don't know that much about it. I just know that once we are in Italy and in our own house we will be looking into it more!

Hi sorry for changing the subject but can anyone tell me what to expect the weather to be like in Tuscany at the end of March, going to a wedding and not sure what type of clothing to take with me as we are also going to Rome for two nights.

Hi Fin , Its been quite mild so far in Italy this winter . Hazzarding a guess I would say light coat ( but room underneath for a jumper if needed!).
Tuscany in March lovely as spring will be coming . It can get chilly in the hills if you are going to that area. Feel free to contact me nearer the time and will give you an update ..and for Rome comfy shoes !

fin54 · 26/02/2007 21:46

Hi Rosa5 thanks for your answer and for your help, I was beginning to panic as I don't have a clue about the weather situation in Italy at the time of the year of the wedding.
The wedding is in Cortona Town Hall at the end of March but I will contact you again nearer the time. once again a big thank you.

fin54 · 17/03/2007 18:02

Hi this is for Rosa5, Am I right in thinking the weather in Italy is looking good at the moment.

Rosa5 · 19/03/2007 13:29

Erm not precisely ... The cold front that has hit the Uk is on its way here. WIndy, its wet and temps have dropped . Its due to work its way down through Italy until Thursday. But it has been lovely really spring stuff. I hope it picks up for your wedding but I would suggest packing for varied weather !!
Try www.eurometeo.com ( can't do links) for more of an update.

fin54 · 22/03/2007 10:56

Thanks Rosa5, I have been watching the link you sent me for the weather and hoping it gets just a little bit warmer for the wedding next week
