just curious - all right nosy - as to what everyone else is up to....

christmas eve - usually put up tree and watch carols in the domain from Melbourne... That weekend - take the girls to a carols by candlelight

christmas daywe will have to go to my mother's for lunch - long story - 2 brothers, sil and nieces won't be there this year..... so just us.

We usually let the girls open their stockings then have a scrummy breakfast - cooked by dh - scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and bucks fizz....

then get out of pjs and open some more presents....

head to mums

then home for rest for dds, dh and I just relax

cold meat and salads light supper for dinner.

very boring.....

usually get together together with my aunt and are spoilt with very scrumptious food, fun time had for girls - last year they did not go to bed until we got home after midnight ( they were 1 and 3 at the time!!)

anyone doing anything exciting?!?!?

not very boring at all!

we are lucky in that we don't have any Australian famill christmas traditions, dh's family never went in for it much at all, and we have no family here apart from MIL whom we see every single day and estranged and rather cold fish BIL and SIL and two kids whom we never see.

So we can please ourselves. There will be no turkey, I shall probably cook a very rich Italian ragu and consume it with carbs and very good cheese, probably BBQ pork and noodles from their favourite shop for the rest of them.

There will be the beach at some point in the day and visits to friends as well.

This arvo, when the kids came in from splashing in the paddling pool and drank milo and ate BBQ shapes while in their jocks and with the sunlight pouring in throught the window, I could not accept it was nearly christmas, artificial tree in the corner not withstanding.

Christmas Eve No plans, we usually open a small present each. then normal routine really. leaving Milk/Cookies out for Santa, Carrots for reindeer.

Christmas Day We are at IL's for Christmas day. We are having Turkey & roast Pots, done on the webber. I am doing pigs in blankets. Then the rest is salad....SALAD, FECKING SALAD...... I ask you, honestly!!!

I want VEG, YORKSHIRE PUDDING, STUFFING

There will be us, PIL, Great Grandma, SIL & her b/f. aunt & uncle. Dd will prob get way over excited, over tired, over indulged & everyone will hate her come 4pm!!! Oh joy!!

Boxing Day we are at dh's cousins for a huge family dinner, which will be nice.

Geez...I sound like I'm not looking forward to at all, I am. Just feeling a bit wierd, because it will be so different.

I will try to look forward to it
I will try to look forward to it
I will try to look forward to it

Yippee nearly christmas.
Xmas Eve - going to pil for huge family get together (think 27 of us), where we all take some food, spinach pie, lasagne etc. Fil dresses up as santa and hands out the secret santa gifts, we all have to go and sit on his knee to get our gifts. Then coming home to assemble a cubby house under the cover of darkness ready for the morning.

Xmas day - have ham on toast for breakie, open pressies. Pil coming over with grandad and having seafood and salads for lunch, yum. Then I guess we will either go for a walk or chill out in the pool.

Boxing day - regret eating so much on xmas day. Then spend the day bubbling with excitement waiting for my sister to arrive from the UK.

Ooooooh - turns out our new family tradition is to go and stay in a hotel in the city for two nights, 22 &23rd. Splash around in the pool, trot around and see the xmas displays, bike rides along the rinver. Can't wait

Ooooh, have fun you lot! Here in the UK it doesn't feel like Christmas at all for me...no carols at Balmoral Beach, no Christmas picnics and BBQs, no big tree in Martin Place, no Christmas shopping on warm evenings...

It is lovely here though, but just not the same.

Merry Christmas!

sunnywong · 16/12/2006 22:58

it must be weird for you too in the Northern Hemisphere

Nope, cricket was dull as ditchwater, we left at 1pm. But I did enjoy having the morning away from the kids and being with lovely husband so mustn't grumble

2000milestoeidsvold · 16/12/2006 23:06

oh a morning out with dh minus children - bliss.....

Christmas eve - out for dinner and a drive around to seel the Christmas lights. Home and the children open 1 present each. Milk and biscuits for Santa.

Christmas day - dc open their Santa Sacks and ham and breakfast of ham and eggs, champagne and orange juice for dh and I and chocolate for the dc. Then dressed and open presents from us. We are on our own with my sis and bil and their two children. Roast pork/ham and veg for lunch with trifle/Christmas pud for dessert. chocs and lovely things for after. Plenty more champagne.

We always save a combined present for after lunch to keep the children going when dh and I want to sit back and relax. This year it is a trampoline.

Boxing Day - usually a day at the beach which is a huge aussie tradition. This year we are travelling "home" to visit rellies for a few days.

once when we lived in OZ we were so desparate for a proper chissy lunch we pu the aircon onto 12 degrees for 24 hrs and chilled the house down and all sat in jumpers and jeans and htick socks and ate the full turkey and trimmings and pud !!! it wa hysterical...after that adopted queensland traditions and went to Noosa every year ... i am actually feeling quite jealous reading your posts...happy christmas down under netters from a aussie/pm dual national.xxx

mummydoc · 17/12/2006 13:28
