Hello! Just wondering if anyone is in Sacramento or close to it? I'll be moving out there in the spring and would love to hear what people have to say about the area.

I'm nearby. As with all places, there's good and bad, so it depends on exactly where you're moving.

That was rather brief of me, sorry. Sacramento has a rather large metropolitan area, like most major cities, so you can't say it's 'good' or 'bad', anymore than you could say London or Manchester was 'good' or 'bad', iyswim.

I will say it pretty much has something for everyone, plus you're within 2 hours of either Lake Tahoe or San Francisco.

Were there any specific concerns you have or things you like to do that you wonder will be available?

PS, It's only a 7 hour drive (or 55 min flight) to Disneyland. Grin

Thanks for the reply acrossthepond55! We will be about an hour north of Sacramento. I've been in Mississippi for three years so I'm very excited about California!! I'm looking forward to the climate, mountains, bike trails and food. Also, I really want to explore the west coast. That's a very short flight to Disneyland!

So Colusa, Butte, Glenn county area? You don't need to say. I'm east of Sacramento.

We went through Miss last spring on our way to Disney World. It was really green and beautiful. It's a bit dryer and not so 'lush' in the Sac Valley. Summers are hotter but not near as humid. Some of the area north of Sac is pretty rural, lots of agriculture with small towns spread out. Chico is a pretty fun town, it's a university town so there's lots to do. We were just there today to see a museum exhibit.

Sacramento (proper) is about 2 hours (give or take) to the Sierras, SF, Napa Valley, and the Pacific. I think you're going to find loads to do, there's a lot of recreation in this area, lakes, rivers, mountains, and Sac has some really, really good restaurants and nightlife. It even has it's own minor league baseball team and now a soccer (football) team. It'll all have to do with exactly where you are. The main arteries are I5 (north/south) and I80 (east/west). Ease of travel has a lot to do with how close you are to one or both.

I'm glad you're looking forward to your move! I'm a native Californian, raised in So Cal then moved to No Cal when I married. I love my Golden State.
