feckity's adventures in Singapore

I've been posting all over this board for a while now about our possible move to Singapore, well now I'm here! For a visit anyway. We arrived this morning, and given the lack of sleep on the flight over I think we've had a pretty productive day so far - managed to get ourselves an easy lunch, got the bus to Holland Village, had a walk around, then got the MRT to One North, which definitely seems strange on the weekend, but I guess comes to life during the working week, then got ourselves back to Orchard to the hotel. I've been amazed by how easy it has all seemed.

But now we're flagging and have to decide where to eat this evening, any ideas on a good place to go around Orchard to keep us going til a sensible Singaporean bedtime? I really really want to crash now, but that's definitely not a good idea.

We've got vague plans to get to Marina Bay/Chinatown/Little India tomorrow, then a packed day seeing schools and condos on Monday, then most of Tuesday to do more fun stuff before heading home.

I'm in Singapore! Grin

Take a taxi to dempsey hill and try PS cafe ir Jones the grocer. Easy and athmospheric, just a short ride away from the bright lights.
All day dining too so anytime will work

You can also just roll down into Ion and grab a great quick meal in the food court if you are too shaterred.

If you want to stay on Orchard, try Cuppage Terrace.

There's a Wine Connection for cheap wine, a great Indian and loads of other food options - Italian, Mexican, Japanese.

Great staggering distance back to the hotel too.

It's a little side road over the road from Orchard Central.

PS Cafe also a good shout - there's one on the third floor of Paragon if you don't want to go too far.

If it were me, I'd be all over Din Tai Fung in Wisma Atria.

Thanks both :) You've sold us on Din Tai Fung for this evening, and think we'll check out Dempsey Hill tomorrow. Brilliant :)

Welcome to Singapore! The haze is awful - try to stay inside.
And have you signed up to the Real Singapore Expat Wives page on FB? It will be invaluable to you when you arrive!
Good luck

Thanks, and yep, found RSEW, it's been great reading it and getting a taste for life out here, it seems a lot like MN sometimes too - no matter your question, someone can help :)

I had really hoped the haze would be gone by now, for everyone still dealing with it as much as for our trip. We'll find as much to do indoors as we can, but we've got masks for when we go for a wander.

We lived in Robertson Quay and really enjoyed it; a nice stroll from there to either Clarke Quay or Great World City mall. We could also walk to Orchard Road in 20 minutes and a little further afield to Marina Bay Sands (obviously arriving a bit sweaty!).

I believe that since we left PS Cafe have opened on River Valley Close which is also just by Robertson Quay. Kith is nice for a coffee too.
