Jersey with young children

Just posted a thread in primary education in the hope of getting some info about schools in jersey, so posting here too as unsure how many mntrs actually live over there!

Considering move next summer , dd starting reception next month, ds will next year, ds is also ?asd currently undergoing diagnosis.

Any schools to avoid? Which would be best if ds has a definate diagnosis? Open to all parishes/areas at the moment.

Also, is there lots of activities for children to do in jersey? As in after school gymnastics, dancing etc? Do any expats feel that island life has benefitted their children or are there cons i may have not thought of yet?

Thank you for reading !

I grew up in Jersey it is a beautiful and wonderful place to be a child.

Although small, traffic can be dire, so I would look at somewhere near where you are planning to live. It can take an hour to get across the island in rush hour. I also think there's a catchment area situation for the state schools.

When I was a kid the state schools were not great so went private, there's a lot of private schools.

Thanks for the reply,

I have heard the fee paying ones are a lot better, i just didnt want the kids to be at seperate schools, or have i researched and missed a private mixed school?! I will look into this, we dont have a set area yet would rather find the good schools then look at housing from there if thatmakes sense

Ah yes, private schools are single sex but Victoria college is twinned with Jersey college for girls.(next door to one another) they mix in sixth form.

Hope I'm not doing the state schools a disservice, it is some time since I went to school there. But tbh all my friends still there only have their kids in private....

It's a great lifestyle, very outdoorsy, the beaches are amazing, the weather is usually a bit better than the UK....I have great memories of always being on the beach and outside.

It is very expensive though.....

I will ask my friends in state there .We love it and would move like a shot but it is very expensive housing wise and you are very limited on what housing you can rent.

There is a Mums in Jersey FB page that's very helpful.

Ive seen the fb page actually, maybe i should post on there. When we move il be working as an HCP so currently looking at what kind of level of housing we would be able to apply for etc its all very confusing!

Thanks badger, not against the seperate sexes at all its not even that it just seems simpler if there dropped off together, (also have the same opportunities , school environment etc )but if they are literally next door to each other that would take away that worry i suppose !
