I am sailing with my husband, we left England in May 2014 and are now in Grenada. Any other cruisers around?

I'd love to hear more about your adventures! I would love to do what you're doing...

AmandaJane82a · 25/07/2015 00:49

What would you like to know? I will give you brief outline of journey so far. We left Portsmouth, England in May 2014 and spent the summer saling down the west coast of Europe, so France which has more islands than I ever imagined, Spain which was fantastic probably my favourite place, Portugal and then on to Morocco by November. Then from Morocco we sailed to Lanzarote ready for the start of our Atlantic crossing. Mid December we sailed from Lanzarote to Antigua, the crossing took twenty days and we arrived on January 3rd 2015. We have visited numerous Carbbean islands from the BVI in the north to Grenada in the south, where we are sitting out some of the hurricane season!

Any questions welcome I will try and answer them. There must be other sailors out there that are in the Caribbean or elsewhere, come along and say hi. You don't have to be a sailor to ask questions!

Sounds amazing - you are living the dream!

We have cruised in Italy, Spain and Greece and just love being in the warm sun!

What hairy, scary moments have you had - there must have been a few along the way?

AmandaJane82a · 20/08/2015 03:06

I am going to be very boring here and say we have never really suffered any scary moments - sorry. It hasn't all been plain sailing there have been a few hassles, mainly due to things breaking or weather problems. Such as the time we were sailing from Guedaloupe to Monserrat and the main sail collapsed (literally fell down) as I was helming and my husband was in the galley filleting the fish we had just caught! Catching fish isnt always easy either, occasionally you can catch a seagull! Also when in Morocco sailing between Rabat and Agadir we encountered really bad storms and the thunder and lighting where spectacular, our boat of course was the highest point for miles around!

Ping - What are you up to now, are you out sailing at the moment or are you planning your next adventure?

We are now in Trinidad and have been here for a week, great place fully intend to return here. On 3rd September we are joining a small rally and heading down to South America, we are visiting Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname.

Hi Amanda. What is she...the boat I mean. We had plans to cruise in our old boat but age and health have meant we had to sell her and get a narrowboat which we see as our retirement bungalow!

Your itinary sounds amazing.

Your adventure sounds awesome! Have you got a blog? I'm going on the safety boat at a kids sailing charity I volunteer with this morning. But then I have to go into work! :-(
