Hello, I've been offered an opportunity to relocate to Amsterdam in September - if anyone has any advice of what it is like to live there (have a 2year old DD) then please do let me know. Cheers

Amsterdam is a great place to live.

Here's some info to get started with...

www.iamsterdam.com/en/

iamexpat.nl
Great source of info for new and established expats here

Cheers that's really kind of you. Did you find it difficult to rent there?

No, so long as you have a job contract it is fairly easy to rent but your deposit might be quite high if it's only a temporary contract, (3 times the cold rent as a rule). Funda.nl is probably the best place to look for apartments - do you know what area you fancy yet?

I would also recommend this company to rent through as they have really nice properties

Expatica.nl is another good source of info.
It's a great place to live. Still miss it.

Thank you alittleegglayonaleaf - I'm actually going as a student as I have a place on a Masters course. Did you take out health insurance while you were there? Cheers

Blue73 - you can use your EU health insurance card until you've been here for 3 months then you'll need to choose a dutch health insurance provider by law.. If you don't choose one they will pick for you and it probably won't be the optimal package for you. I'd highly recommend Delta Lloyd and ONVZ - their basic packages are around €100 a month per person and your children are completely covered by your insurance (own risk is about 350euros a year). If you have a low income you can ask for what's called Zorgtoeslag - financial help for paying for your health insurance per month. Hope that helps!

Join the Amsterdam mamas Facebook group, people there will be able to give loads of advice! Funda.nl probably won't be a great place for you to rent as a student as they'll be mostly agencies with minimum monthly income requirements. Kamernet is popular with students, but is mostly rooms rather than full apartments.

Thank you for your help!
