Nurturing school in Singapore- Dover Court the only option?

Following on from my thread about moving with a shy 5yo DD . I was wondering about a school which might suit. She is quiet and slow to emerge from her shell but likely to be academic I would guess. Currently thriving at a UK Montessori.
Looking at previous threads it looks like Dover Court would be my best bet. Do you think this is right? And where would be usual to live? Nearby? Do play dates tend to happen after school or at weekends?
Thanks!

Hooray bkksin! Hope you receive a confirmed place soon. My two have had such a positive start. All the best for your move!

I saw photos recently on the Dover Court school page on facebook of UN Day, brings back very fond memories even 2 years after leaving. Freddo, notice you have a lo is nursery - is Miss Swan still there?

FreddoFrog · 20/10/2015 15:49

My friends, sorry for the slow reply. Ms Swann is indeed still there and teaching nursery. She is lovely!

Good news bkksin!

Thank you! I'll drop her a card to the school from my dds, they both loved her.

A word of warning regarding Dover Court international school. I recently removed my children from the school. Both have mild special needs. I was impressed with the teaching staff who are clearly very dedicated but was very concerned about the lack of resources, especially when it came to ICT. Class sizes were also an issue at times. They seemed very disorganised and were unable to provide any real information about how they plan for provision or monitor progress. My children loved their teacher but it soon became clear that Dover Court was not the place for them. I met other parents with similar, if not worse issues around ESL provision where apparently there are around 20 students in each class. Being an ESL teacher myself I can't imagine how you teach that many students in a class when each child has a different level of English. They also don't seem to have put much effort into their secondary section. The Head doesn't seem too interested in this part of the school which is worrying. We really wanted a school where our children would stay to avoid transition issues. My advice is to ask lots of questions if you are thinking of sending your children there.

Hi Verity66, can u share with me which school u have transfer ur children? My sis is moving to Singapore as her 8yo son being dianogsed with ADHD. Doctor recommended both Dover court & Winstedt. Would like to hear more opinions from you. Thanks in advance.

Lalux · 30/12/2015 18:56

If you are on Facebook I recommend you ask to join the group 'Singapore Special Needs and Parents (SSNAP)'. A friend of mine on there has her son at Winstedt and I'm sure others who would be able to help.

Lalux, thanks for ur advice. Winstedt is one of our consideration as well. Will join the FB group to get more help & information. Thanks a lot!
