Gosh Sittingbull - I've just read that and you're making me want to move to Adelaide! White sandy beaches drinking the local wine - sounds great!

HauntedsandCastle · 16/10/2006 07:42

"the summers can be brutal, but are typically quite lovely (around 25 degrees) with the occassional week at 38!!! HOWEVER, the heat is dry rather than tropical, which for me, means it is much much better than being up north (because i hate humidity)"

SB, you been away for a while? I ask as IL's say we get temps around the 40 mark for summer here. Had 36 last week, and still in spring. But agree with lack of humidity.

HauntedsandCastle · 16/10/2006 07:44

"it is a stones throw to the Barasso Valley - yummy yummy wine"

SB, Are you forgetting that McLauren vale IS IN Adelaide?

BTW, am not pulling apart your post, but McL Vale is my favourite place right now!

LemonTart · 16/10/2006 07:46

My father has travelled and lived extensively in Australia. When I saw this thread I clicked on it immediately to tell you that it his all time favourite place in the world. Every time he talks about Aus he always says the same thing "mind you, girls, if I were twenty years younger I would emigrate back to Adelaide which is a little piece of perfection.."
I have never been but his photos and certainly his memories and descriptions make it sound just wonderful

SB, am in Hackham West at the mo, not our favoured spot but we are on a short rental from family at such a good rate. It's our first home here, have only been in Oz 3 months, (well, officially the second, first was IL for 6 weeks).

We'd like to settle around Morphett Vale area, to be near the IL's

HauntedsandCastle · 16/10/2006 07:53

SB, me again! We were warned not to go to Salisbury now. Not a nice area. But Belair....nice!

Sittingbull, that story about the little girl is quite shocking! No body has mentioend it, but then it's not really somthing that comes into conversation, I suppose.

Thanks for the weather link, certainly seems more bareable than the 40 I have been told about by the IL. This is maybe a one off every now & then temp?

How sad, I can't imagine how her parents must feel.

Hackham is ok, not mine or dh's first choice tbh, but it's a cheap rent from family so you can't look a gift horse and all that. Saying that, it is peaceful, no yahoos, excess noise etc.

IL's live in Morphett Vale, and I like the area. Will have to see what our $ buys when we get there! Dh needs longer in his job to be able to get a mortgage.

no, he lived here 1972-1989, after emigrating from the UK with his family. He left here 1989 for a holiday (stayed in UK with Aunt & Uncle), met me, rest is history as thy say. When DD was born, he said he stated to become aware of the fact that he wanted to be with his family, but never mentioned anything as he though I wouldn't come. After a holiday in 2005 to introduce dd ot the family he realied how much he wanted to be here, with them. He asked me to emigrate and I agreed, we got in on a former resident visa. He got a job quite easily, ironically enough with the company he did his aprentaship with when he lived her before!

I grew up in rural Sth Aust but lived in Adelaide for about 5 years. Lived in North Adelaide and Prospect and loved it. So easy to get around as the city is planned and parking is a dream (I live in London now!).
There are so many great restaurants, bars, shopping centres and things to do.
I always felt that you had all of the facilities and benefits of living in a capital city but had the feel of a relaxed big country town.
I would move back in a heart beat but can't at the moment.
A brilliant place to raise a family and enjoy life. Just go for it, I am sure you would never regret it. HTH x
