I know the year 3 children took some standardised tests a couple of months ago, which were sent off for external marking. I know (or think) they are more about assessing the school than the child, and wasn't aware we would get our individual children's results.
Today DD brought home a report - not the usual mid or end of year report, just the VERA-3 one, with levels for German reading, writing and maths. The list had 5 levels for each of the 3 subjects, with a description of what a child at each level could do in that subject, clearly with 1 being weakest and 5 most competent (counter intuitively gien the grade system is the opposite) and with DD's level marked with a cross beside the level she fitted into for that subject.
I think the report sent to parents is just an FYI thing, a courtesy of letting us know what her test results showed, and has no actual bearing on anything for her personally (so makes no difference to the Gymnasium/ Real/ Mittleschule decision etc.) - is that correct?
Purely to satisfy my idle curiosity, can anyone tell me which level is "expected" in Year 3? It seems a little akin to SATS in the UK, for which parents could easily find out, or might in fact be told how their child was doing in relation to would be an expected average level - I'm curious to know what this is, though I know it doesn't matter.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
