Went to England, and didn't buy me a paper!

Really disappointed tonight, as DH just returned from an overnight trip to the UK to pick up DD1 (she stayed with my mum for 2wks)... and he didn't bring me back a paper

Apparently the queues at Stansted were awful... but still

Feel better for sharing that

not even free one from the plane. I loved getting British papers

lilmamma · 04/09/2006 21:32

where do you live ?

Carmenere · 04/09/2006 21:33

I spent a hell of a long time this weekend queueing in stanstead. I'm not defending him but I diddn't get to get a mag in Smiths as I was running for the plane so his story is plausible.

We're in Denmark, and have been here for 2.5yrs. I love it, but the language is really heavy, so I love having englsih stuff to read!

And I know the airports are horrendous at the mo, but was still gutted that he didn't make a bit more effort...

Dh is applying for jobs in Denmark (research) but we want to go back to the UK. Are the people friendly? What is school like? I would have to send mine to international if we went there , they would go mad if they had to learn another language!

Hi admylin - Denmark is a lovely place to live, and is great for the kids. You can cycle anywhere and state services, transport etc are really well organised. Winter is long though, and it is agonising waiting for spring!

Culturally I have had to get used to a country where manners & social order are not that important (eg respecting your elders!) - which makes a lot of the kids seem a bit wild. But the flip side is that my kids are growing up very confident, with none of the guilt culture that shone thru in my own schooling!

The language is tough, but most people speak english, and are interested in the UK & our traditions.

I assume research jobs would be city based? Danish co's are very good to work for, and have a very good reputation according to my DH.

Thanks , sounds OK, I know a few of his colleagues (doctors) have worked in Denmark and they all want to go back - it's just the language which would worry me but as you say if most people speak english it would be OK. So we will keep trying for the jobs as they come - we need a permenant one after 2 years of postdoc work so sooner the better!
