Does Anyone else live in or around Monaco?

Hi. Does anyone else live in the Monaco area? I have a baby girl who is just about to turn six months and life can feel a bit isolated at times without family near by. Also, does anyone else find the french health care system interventionary? i.e. they give you drugs for every little problem where as in the UK the health care professionals would leave well alone?

One of the girls on the "Due October 2006 part 4" thread lives near Nice.... her nickname is Nowanearlynicemum if you want to search for her posts and send her a post. She has a 2 yr old daughter.

Thanks Wiffy. Sorry to bother you but how do I search for a post?

You go to 'search all messages' (link is at the top of this page) and then type in the name under 'nickname'and then press search all. Alternatively just go to the ante-natel/'due oct 2006 - part four' thread and add a message to her there....

I realize it's been a while since original posts, but just to let you know that I also live in Monaco. Our daughter is about 6 months younger than yours.

It would be great to meet up. We might even know eachother already.

kessernags - I'm in Paris, not around Monaco, but yes, the French health care system is highly interventionary and technical. If you hunt around you might be able to find a more holistic GP/paedatrician.

Might be harder than you think. Monaco is tiny & no of good professionals in any specialty is very small. In the case of paeds, everybody I know take their kids to two sisters who are paediatricians in Beausoleil, just above Monaco.

I find them excellent. Great care, very accessible by phone or even on the weekend. Kessernags - if you are looking for a paed, I could give you the details.

Anna - What exactly is a "holistic paediatrician"? Even if such a thing exists down here, I doubt very much if their fees would be remboursee par la securite sociale.

Hi Kessernags,
I live in Monaco. I've got three schoolage kids. I first moved here when my youngest was 2 months old.
I'm sure you have discovered the Mother and Baby group at the church. It's an absolute haven for ex-pat mums and a surefire way of meeting loads of people in the same situation as you.
Sandra runs it on a Monday and a Thursday. It's not overtly religious, it's more a community service.

The doctors here do have a different approach to prescribing things. Although they are very reluctant to prescribe antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, which I think is a good thing. Often what they prescribe, when you look it up, is something that would be considered an over the counter remedy in Britain. I've been prescribed herbal remedies by my doc!

The other thing to remember is that the NHS has the mentality to leave things alone unless intervention is absolutely necessary because of financial constraints. The financial set up of the French and Monaco health system has no such problems. So treatment is always the option.

I use paediatricians in Beausoleil. Don't think it's a sister set up though.
