Possible move to Dubai, possibly quite soon. Anyone out there with good advice on areas for families, schools, life in general?

DP (about to be DH) is in final stages of interview for a senior role in Dubai. Assuming he gets it, I believe I will be a quick turnaround so potentially we would be over there in July. Therefore I have been researching schools, areas etc and so far potentially can get the kids into Repton, with a view to living at Arabian Ranches or Villa Project. Anyone done this, and can give some advice? I know schooling can be a huge issue (with 3 kids this is my primary concern). Have been on expat woman etc and opinions seem to vary wildly so am looking for UK based ladies views if anyone can comment? Thanks

Hi great to read everyone's stories about moving to Dubai. I will be moving at the end of October this year soon after my husband. I'll be 20 weeks pregnant with our first child. Anyone moved out whilst pregnant with any advice!! Smile

Hi April. Although my family's move is to Abu Dhabi, my DD was born in Bahrain. First thing is to make sure your family's medical insurance covers maternity and to what extent - we paid the hospital money over and above the insurance payout as I had an elcs. I'm sure you'll get advice on the best maternity services in Dubai from someone who's there or try the expatwoman boards. My experience was of very good care. All of my midwives were British or Irish and my consultant was a wonderful Polish woman. Paediatrician was British. Good luck with the move and the new baby.

Desert runner, any news? Been thinking of you today as the temperature has just started to dip and it's divine here!

April1984 I've been here six years and had my first child here last year. The medical care is amazing. Do get in touch if I can help in any way.

Desertrunner · 28/09/2014 18:55

Hi Kelly. Thanks for thinking of us, that's really lovely of you!
He didn't get the original job in the end, I believe it may have been withdrawn, however there are a couple of other possibles but I think they may take time! Who knows. More conversations being had in the next 2 wks so will see what happens after that.
But thank you for posting again, and I'm glad you seem to love it so much!

Thanks BlueMoon and Kelly. I am fully insured under DH's insurance for maternity and the baby will be covered too. Thank god! Kelly, any Recc re hospitals or doctors? Thanks! Grin

Kelly1814 · 03/10/2014 18:28

Hi April! The care here is excellent. City hospital is widely regarded as the best but is by no means the only good one.

You may be challenged getting a consultant there as they are so busy. PM me and I'll share everything I know? My baby is only here due to the amazing care I had there.

It's standard to stay in 4 days after having a baby. They look after you so well. Private rooms, en suite, husband can sleep on sofa bed...I cried when I left!

Isthiscorrect · 04/10/2014 19:46

I don't know about babies. At least not in Dubai. But DS was seriously ill last year and spent many weeks in City Hospital. I would highly highly recommend IT. They were so kind to both Ds and me on many many occasions. Ds is now in the UK and the consultants he has seen have agreed his care I. dubai was exemplary. Fyi Ds is now 19yo ;-). Many of our friends have had babies here in Dubai and have nothing but praise. Medcare is good, City Hospital, Saudi German hospital. All excellent. Good luck and please don't worry.

Hello!
I was looking for info on Dubai after posting a thread asking about advice
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/living_overseas/3717540-Dubai-advice-please
when I stumbled on this very interesting thread yesterday and have been rooting for @Desertrunner ever since. Having now read the whole thread and while gaining much knowledge in the process thanks to mumsnetters like @Kelly1814 and @Isthiscorrect, I feel really frustrated at not hearing back from OP. I hope your DH got the job in Dubai and that you are all well.
PS: I thought that the thread was from this year and realised my mistake halfway through but curiosity got me through the remainder Grin
