i will be doing a year abroad in spain and my ds will have to attend nursery. he will be 2.

so far i think this is correct of the spanish school system but correct me if i am wrong.

kingergarten is between the ages of 3 and 6 and is voluntary. obligatory schooling starts from the age of 6. any schooling taken from the age of 4 is free, but some schools have nurseries which are also free from the age of 1?

had a google around whilst i was waiting for someone to help and it basically looks like all education is free and compulsory from the age of 6. there is cycle one of preschool (1-3) and cycle two (3-5.) there are many state funded preschools but it all depends on your area whether there are any available or not and cannot be guarenteed. are state funded cycle one preschools common or not?

Hiya

I've lived in Spain for the past 3 years. When we arrived my daughter was 3 and went straight into school (equivalent of kindergarten). Children can be put into a Guarderia from a very early age and there is a fee for this. I not sure exactly how much, but nowhere near the cost of childcare in the UK!).

Hope that helps! What part of Spain will you be coming to?

Hello

I'm also in Spain and agree with what you have been told so far. Onepoint to consider is that nursery very rarely goes beyond 2pm in large parts of Spain. I pay 69? per month for 8.45-2pm. I'm sure on big cities and the coast it may be different. It's obviously cheaper than the UK but not necessarily better. Also some of the "schools" that are free from 3 are pretty ropey. Check them out first I'd say.

Hi I moved to to Benalmadena 3 months ago, and I wonder if anyone from this area could help. I have a 12 year old son who starts school tomorrow, but I also have a 15 month old little boy, and I would love to take him to something like a toddler group where he could play with other children and I could meet some new friends.
I've been to look at a day nursery, but as I only work a few hours, which I fit around my husbands work, it's not really an option at the moment.
It would be fab if someone could help me out.Thanks.

Just to add a little extra info for you. I am a teacher of 25 years experience and have just opened a school in Fuengirola. Some of your friends may be interested in my Saturday Club. We open for two sessions of three hours each Saturday, where we provide activities and games for children from ages 3 to 6 years. So any parents who fancy a break and some easier Christmas shopping time give me a ring on the school number 952 197 652.
