DS Sick On Long Haul Flights

We are currently in LA on holiday, flying back to the UK tmrw. DS was sick three times in short succession flying out to San Fran two weeks ago. He has flown long haul to SE Asia four times in the last couple of years and was sick on each flight. He's 9 years old. The sickness always comes around 3/4 of the way through the flight. It's not related to any turbulance or to preparing to land. He is also never car sick.

I've done some poking around on line and I think the most likely cause may be dehydration. Has anyone else experienced this?

Poor poppet is getting anxious about our flight to London tmrw.

Thanks.

I am always airsick if seated in the rear third of the plane (took us a while to work this out when I was younger!). Do you tend to sit in particular places? Otherwise, your idea of dehydration sounds logical to me.

Thx polka. I honestly can't remember but worth co considering. Maybe I'll ask for seats in Business on medical grounds!

Worth a shot definitely! Hope you all have a good journey.

Just another suggestion I always start to feel sick about then. I nibble dry food. Never eat all the airline food at once e.g. I save the roll and/or biscuits and nibble on them later (a bit like morning sickness). Takes the edge off it. And don't laugh but make myself burp! It feels like a build up of air pressure inside me (I know that sounds really weird but ask him how he feels before he's sick).

What type of aircraft did you fly on? Were they a340's? They have a known vibration problem in the rear third of the aircraft and can cause nausea and sickness.

Thanks all. Various aircrafts from 777 to A380 etc.

Hooray! No sickness for the first time on a long haul flight after really nailing his water consumption. Obviously we normally try to ensure he stays well hydrated anyway but after a few hours in the air it's not difficult to get dehydrated.

That's good. A relief I'm sure.
