after a really nice fortnight with us. Dad gets fixed holidays so won't see them again for a while. Just feeling a bit glum!

My Mum is a VSO in Africa and she came home for the birth our beautiful girl. I'm dreading her going back at the end of the month, it's hard not having parents around.

I think maybe it's a temporary sadness that will alleviate when you've been abroad for longer. I remember 7 yrs ago, within a year of moving to the UK from America, I was weeping for about a week after my parents left. . .dh & I were closing on a house, and I was weeping in the solicitor's office. But now so much has changed, and I don't have that kind of an intense reaction after saying goodbye to them.

Sorry you're feeling so glum, Medulla, and hope you feel better soon.

my parents live abroad too, and they were here for dd's first bday! they left just under 2 weeks ago. i have been away from home for 10 years, but i still feel absolutely miserable at the airport. we all cry. it is pathetic!!! then we settle in back to our lives. it is crazy sad. i hope you are feeling better medulla, the first few days are the hardest....

I'm in Australia, mum in the UK...we usually manage to see each other every couple of years, though sooner if we can. I am a complete coward and don't go to the airport when they go, way too hard. I actually find the build up to her going the worst bit. Once she's gone I howl ( though with small offspring can't be too upset as it makes them too sad), then it's a relief to be able to get on with things...Thank f**k for the internet and cheap rate phone cards!
